nah i like madlib and all that ish but i came accross mad samples he used and they are straight loops. But whatever floats your boat. if ur a dj its like second nature, i just tend to make my beats with chops.

This is the same as buying a sample cd from lets say e-lab and 'produce' tunes with those loops and bang some beats.. I think this is not creative in any way.
though you cán be creative with loops.
I mean.. if ya listen to djShadow, you allmost not hear he uses loops. Though he does. Thats because its well done in a very artistic way. For example, if he's searching for voices/speech/text, he doesnt put in a vcr or dvd.. he buys those one-time-printed plates with people who, for example, are sending a message to their relatives. Wich is recorded onto vynil/cassette. He says: speeches in films are all acted (good or bad) so its not naturally. Those other one-time-printed plates are voices from people not acting! So, much more honesty and realism in those speeches. Thats just one thing he does creativly. Imagin what he does to those instrumental loops he finds on records!!
But then again, he's not making pure hiphop.. (his albums arent.. he does have some hiphop tracks. but are rare)



Andreas, maybe you can construct a whole new track and use that loop you used just for a few bars.. As a switch (or maybe a chorus) in your own track wich then is yours.

yeah man its 2 diff things. I tried this out last night makin a beat with just loops, and i made a banger in under 10 minutes. It dont feel right. but it sounds good do what u gotta do.

According to some of what some of you are saying then alot of classic Hip Hop would be trash becaus alot of shit was made from loops. Even when Cool Herc was spinning and blending two copies of the same loops it would have been just straight up shit according to ya logic because if ya could have seen the label or your had the joint at home you would have been like any monk can do it I got the shit at home. Blind deaf and dumb to the facts that the crowds groove to the joint that the DJ introduced mofos too. That the dj gave the MC something nice to rap over. That the crowd could build and reminisce too over their childhood in a new light. That the Dj aka any monkey can find that spot to crunk ya neck to that was nice. Now will the seq/sampler this process is easier to do, and easier to understand. But the reasoning, the feeling, and the love for the loops and diggin isn`t crossed over to the bewildered so the ignorance and the criticism comes into the picture. Sean Combs main fault was to use recent loops that the mainstream could identify to broaden hip hops base which he did. I respect that some of you disagree with some of his moves but Sean and Madlib definitely and positively are not monkeys but MEN from different parts of the hip hop experience. In some ways carrying out the traditions of the hip hop pioneers but they got paid so all of the hate came even for the bewildered. If these men didn`t get a dime could any of us came up with the idea, thought or even the flavor of Machine Gun Funk, Big Poppa, Benjamins or others. Hip hop isn`t just about listening to a hip hop joint getting the original record from reading the credits or having ya homey hook you up with original saying" I know that record now the mofo just looped it." 8 out of 10 of the audience already knew what it is or were familiar with the tune from childhood. The main thing is that they could jam it the way that they think it should sound. Come off ya high horses because ya soundings lame and tired like some old gray over the hill 50`s Beach Boys or something. If you don`t like it you don`t like it don`t hate the MEN that are part of this game. I had to step in because I heard the same little shit from grey boys always when rap was blowing up. Gottam! What you smoking man? Back then that was fresh and new, straight loops can be cool, but it is hardly fresh unless you really know what you're doing, and I suspect that the famous producers that use loops also know how to chop and do it often, it broadens their game.

That's like saying 808 beats are better because they weren't sampling and had their own sounds, when that was all they had, that's what they did. Beat Juggling came from the influence of chopping.

We are presumably all samplists here, so sweating the technique is part of learning, and there are some shortcuts that are uncreative and unimaginative, which you are welcome to use, but use them well, otherwise they become crutches and your hobbling will become apparent.

It's also not about elitism, it's just about appreciation.
