I would only say this one time. The material of the pads on the 500, 1000 and the 2500 are identical. The problem with the mpc-500 is the responsiveness of the piezo sensors that lays under the pads. You can fix this by making an analog amplifier with an opamp per sensor, or you can ask Akai to turn up the sensitivity in the software. Dont coock the pads, it would only ruin them!

mpcstuff has this cork crap that you can use, along with their replacement 500 pads, that'll probably do the trick for under a hundred dollars. unless you's a broke-ass.
