Hi guys,

I am new on this forum and already read a lot of posts - thx for the help :D

Here is my issue : I want to buy a 160 GB hard drive (with enclosure) for my MPC 1000. I use the JJ OS 1 and I would like to know if anybody know which hard drive should i buy.
According to some posts I read, this one seems good : 160 Gb Samsung Spinpoint M5 HM160HC
Does anybody has it whith the same OS as me, it will help choosing a good one before buying..

Thx

bachcoy wrote:Ok man thx. I was wondering is it better to take 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm will also work ??
Still waiting for other advices concerning the HD that work with JJ OS 1.. Cheers.

i would stick to 5400rpm. i read some were awhile ago that the mpc only reads 5400 when i got a hdd. and if you get a 160gb, the mpc only sees between 130-140gb. i got 134gb out of 160gb.

ok. i was going to give you a link to a web site in the UK, but it will not be good to you. the site is DABS.com. thats were i ordered mine.

So, keep to IDE, 5400rpm and i wont go over 160gb.

hope this helps.

Peace.

one reason for the difference in size is that drive manufacturers use 1GB = 1000000000 bytes, but your computer (and probably the MPC) uses 1GB = 1073741824 bytes

so what is sold as 160 "GB" is only really 149GB. Once you partition it at least 11GB will be used up in overhead of the partition table, so what's left is going to be less than 140GB. That's normal.
