This is so silly. When the browse button is pressed (turned on), it should display the browser in the software and do the same in the hardware. When it is turned off, it should hide the browser on the hardware and software. There doesn't need to be two buttons for this.

I agree.

unkle wrote:1. I have seen comparisons from people on this thread between the Pads on Maschine and a Korg padKontrol having a similar feel.
I purchased a Korg microKontrol once thinking it would be great for the pads (but they were really bad, too plastic very cheap)

microKontrol pads are NOTHING like padKontrol pads. I've had both and they couldn't be further apart other than that they light up. microKontrol is an older product and its "pads" are more like push buttons, more like what you would find on an Electribe. padKontrol on the other hand has been the standard for pad controllers for a while in terms of sensitivity/responsiveness.

Askia Shaheed wrote:NI should really redesign the LCD. You "MUST" use the computer monitor when using it. The LCDs are very little help when being used alone.

That's absolute nonsense and very misleading but I don't expect any less from you.

Preview sounds. How do you preview sounds from the hardware without loading them? You must use the computer monitor and mouse.

Step. You must look at the computer monitor when using this mode since the LCD doesn't show any detailed information. When you start increasing the number of steps (by adjusting the grid) it is impossible to tell what you are actually doing looking at the hardware unlike an MPC or MV.

An example where you must look at the hardware because the monitor doesn't show anything...is destructive sample editing. The computer monitor (software) doesn't show you what editing function you are about to use. You must look at the hardware for this information.

I have more examples. Is what I wrote so far misleading? You're the expert so if I am mistaken, I will acknowledge my error.

You are crazy...

hit browse, with knobs choose what type of sound, load up sound and keep hitting next until you find one you like, all while sequence is playing

Preview sounds without loading. Like Battery's in-kit preview.

This is another area where Maschine can be streamlined.

When it comes to loading sounds using Browse, you have two knobs on the hardware which do the exact same thing..browse through the names of samples. Then you have the PREV and NEXT buttons which also lets you browse through samples but also loads them immediately to a pad. Then you have a Load button...which does what? The same thing..it loads a sample to a pad. Additionally (no pun intended), there is the mysterious Add button which is not detailed in the manual. It seems like NI was unsure what direction they wanted to take in this regard. From the software, you have inplace audition (Swap button) which allows you to load and preview sound from software similar to PREV and NEXT buttons on the hardware. The major difference between software and hardware browsing is that with hardware, you can only load samples adding to Maschine's library. NI should really focus on ensuring the hardware and software functions identically.

All I have to say is STREAMLINE....STREAMLINE...STREAMLINE.

Only one is needed. Unless...

Yes, they both load samples, but there's a major difference. If you don't know which sample you want to load, the PREV and NEXT buttons are the way to go. If you know which sample to load, quickly move to that sample with knob 5 (or 6 or 7 or 8 ) and press LOAD.

They must have forgotten to ADD it to the manual.

Bzzzt... wrong.
When you increase the number of steps, the pads reflect the changes in grid resolution. The LCD displays show you where you are in the steps and allow you to navigate.

Wrong again.
There are arrows for buttons 7 and 8 which is how you choose which editing function to use.

Stop trying to mislead people about Maschine. I know you want an all-out spec war between Maschine and MPC but the truth is that Maschine is not just a MPC replacement. It's much more than that. And for some people it will never replace a MPC, and vice versa. They're different tools for different needs.

There's only a few things that you ever need to touch the mouse or keyboard while using Maschine, usually tasks that are better done with a mouse or keyboard, like importing samples into library and naming a project when saving. But no matter how much you try to nitpick, the fact is that most of the time you're using Maschine, you can just use the controller by itself.

For me its funny to do so much comparison to the MPC....how could you replace a 4 midi output bearing midi production center with a "Maschine" that only has 1 midi output? If this were meant to be an MPC, version 1.0 would have been drastically different imo. All of these MPC-like features are the result of NI listening to its user's feature requests, because many MPC users are looking for this solution. It wont help all MPC users, thats for sure. I think NI is smart for listening to the requests of the MPC users because it has broadened the product's scope, but I still say its not an MPC. If I want a Bentley I will buy a Bentley, and conversely if I want a smart car I will buy a smart car, but I wont sit up and complain why it doesnt look nor function like a Bentley. I just care about the results.
