Syncing MPC500 as slave to CuBase LE

Hi all

hope someone can help me syncing my MPC500 to Cubase LE. I want to slave the MPC500 to the sequencer therefore just using it as a sound module when in my studio and trigger the samples via a controller keyboard. I connected up the midi in of the MPC to the midi outa of my midisport 2x2 interface as described. Then set up MPC as manual suggests and then changed the settings in devices of Cubase LE. The midisport interface shows its receiving/sending data but will not communicate with the MPC. I have no "ext" in the tempo field and it seems the MPC is ignoring the external sequencer. This is even without incorporating the midi controller keyboard I have. Even if I connect the midi out of the MPC to Cubase via the midi interface and connect midi in so I can input samples as midi data into Cubase it recognises the note in the midi ediotr but still no sound from the MPC. All midi channel data as far as I know is set up properly in Cubase. Can anyone help with these issues as I'm getting frustrated trying to set this up.

This is an example of a dude syncing his 1000 to Cubase but Im sure this will atleast let you know how its done.

It will help out on how to setup Cubase to work correctly... The MPC setup is easy just read the manuel.

Nice one, I figured the MPC would be the easy part, but getting it to work with Cubase LE is a different matter. I think I'm just missing something obvious in the device set up. I'll take a look when I'm not doing the mundane things like working.

I am am also following recommended procedures to sync Cubase LE 4 with my MPC 1000 and my MPC still does not display "EXT" in the tempo field as if my audio interface is not sending the MIDI signal to the MPC. I am running Cubase 4 LE with a Lexicon Lambda audio interface. I have the stock OSX on the MPC. I have tried configuring everything (DAW device settings, MPC MIDI/SYNC settings, and cable routing) according to the the following videos:

I have successfully recorded audio from the MPC. The problem lies in getting Cubase to trigger the MPC as the slave when I am trying to track-out.

Some questions:
-Why won't EXT display in the MPC tempo window?
-I have two ASIO drivers that work with my setup; Lambda ASIO and ASIO DirectX Full Duplex. Will using one and not the other impact my ability to send the MIDI signal?
-Under the Sync Setup in Cubase: Should I select the Lambda device as a MIDI timecode destination? Or should I just be concerned with MIDI time clock?
-Also under sync setup: what should timecode source be set to?
-Is it necessary to install the MPC 1000 under Midi Device Manager?

Help is sincerely appreciated. I've invested two days in researching this and still no luck. Mad props to the forum for all the good posts that have helped me out in the past.

Any updates with this yet? I hope the OP found a solution. I will be trying to connect a MPD26 to Cubase 4 LE soon. I'm doing my homework now.

I have a MPC1000 and I tried to sync it via MTC with Nuendo 3 (similar to Cubase) using the same type of midi interface (Midiman Midisport 2x2). I had the MPC set up as slave and the computer as master. All of the synchronization setting were correct in both my MPC and the computer software. However, the MPC just would not pick up whenever I hit start in Nuendo. After simply swapping out the Midisport 2x2 with another midi interface such as an Emagic Amt8 or Unitor 8, the problem vanished instantly and the sync worked perfectly. Note that I left the sync settings exactly the same on the MPC and in Nuendo with the exception of configuring Nuendo to work with the new interface. That was about 2 years ago.

With that said, I just recently tried to sync again via MTC with my Midisport 2x2 to my MPC1000 (slave) and my computer this time running Adobe Audition 3.0 (master). The sync just would not work. The settings were correct on both the MPC1000 as well as Adobe Audition. Now you would think the sync would work as you could see the LEDs on the midisport indicating the MTC is being sent out to the MPC at it's proper MIDI out port. However, the MPC just ignores it for whatever reason. So again, I left the sync settings alone and just swapped out the Midisport 2x2 interface with another (Edirol PCR30 midi controller keyboard with MIDI I/O), configured it in the software, and the sync worked perfectly as it should. That just took place tonight (or this morning rather).

It seems as though the MPC doesn't like the Midisport 2x2 of synchronization. I don't know why, but for some reason, that just seems to be the case.

This is how I setup my Steinberg sync options. You'll have to make sure your s/c's midi ports show up for both mtc & midi clock. If the daw is the master, it should be set for "internal timecode".

Here's what Akai has posted on their site:

Cubase LE4 as Master, MPC1000 / MPC500 as Slave
Connect a MIDI cable from an available MIDI OUT of your MIDI interface to an available MIDI IN on your MPC.

Using MIDI Beat Clock & MMC:
On the MPC500:
1.Go to the MIDI/Sync menu.
2.Press Mode + PAD 7.
3.Turn the data wheel to display "Sync."
4.Press the DOWN cursor
5.Use the data wheel to change the sync mode to "Slave."
On the MPC1000:
1.Go to the MIDI/Sync Menu:
2.Press Mode + PAD 9.
3.Sync [F2].
4.Sync In: 1 or 2 (whichever MIDI input you plugged your MIDI cable into).
5.Sync Out: Off.
In Cubase LE4:
1.Navigate to Transport > Project Synchronization Setup…
2.Under "MIDI Clock Out," enable the device port for your MIDI interface to which you have connected the MIDI IN of your MPC.
3.Enable "MIDI Clock Follows Project Position."
4.Press "OK."
5.Press Play. The MPC will now play in-sync with Cubase/Nuendo. (Using a pre-count is highly recommended with Beat Clock sync.)
