MPC 60 Win XP Zip Help!!

Hey everyone,

I just switched to Windows XP and everything has gone pretty smooth.

But now When I put an MPC 60 formatted zip into the zrive, windows says please insert disk and won't access it. When I try to format the same disk in WIndows, it says windows couldn't complete the operation.

I haven't tried a fresh windows disk, but when I put the zip in that was in my computer, the 60 wouldn't recognize it.

I just did the registry thing from Midicase (thanks Mr. Goins) but it still doesn't recognise the 60 disk. I'm going to see if I need a new driver for my computer for the ZipPlus 100MB.

OK this sucks, I have to try a few things here, but I am open to any approach that makes this work like it did in 98, even experimental approaches that need some guineapigs. I upgraded from 98SE, so I think I'm still FAT not NTFS or whatever.

You have to tape something on the disk.

"simply cover the HD hole in the lower right corner of the disk with opaque tape. (This hole is located on the same edge of the disk as the "HD" emblem, and unlike the other "write protect" hole, has no sliding window.) This will trick the MPC3000 into thinking that the floppy is a DS/DD disk and will then be able to read it." (taken from Rlinn's website.

Now XP will read the disk. But remember, only half is readable

Btw, its always FAT if the disk is so small. +- 2GB = FAT32, more is NTFS

funny you bring this up now.. I just tried transferring a program made with the midicase mpc editor from the pc to the 60 and it worked like a charm

what happened was I formatted the zip on the 60, but when I put it in the pc, it wouldn't recognize it til I formatted again via mpc editor ( I have xp as well), then the transfer was smooth.

so essentially I had to format on the 60 first, then use the format in mpc editor before the zip disk would be recognized on XP. what I plan to do is just have a zip disk dedicated to xp to 60 transferring, and keep it separate from the disks I use solely on the 60.. or I could format all future disks on 60 then in mpc editor so they're totally interchangeable.. either way, I'm excited to use the mpc editor more.

by the way.. I had saved the program without converting to 12bit and it took what seemed like forever to load a single sample. I'm thinking if I did make the 12bit conversion, it'd be regular speed cuz then it wouldn't spend time dropping the 4bits...

actually, I don't think it formats it at all, in the technical sense.. cuz it didn't take longer than a blink of an eye for it to say it was formatted.. probably just erased it and changed something on the volume track or something so it can be read by both...

Wait, you mean to tell me that Windows 98 can read MPC60 (w/3.10 upgrade) formatted Zip Disks and allows you to write directly to them with MPC Editor????

I don't know man, I think it still only reads the first, but maybe mpc3000 can clarify.

I use a transfer disk anyway, since I wouldn't trust windows with my MPC disk. Although creating a backup with disk to file or some other disk imaging software wouldn be nice.
