Usually I make lists of what I want to learn and set about them but these are a few things I can't figure out...a couple of simple questions

1 - In OS1 there was a really easy way to set the swing using the q-links. Doesn't seem to be possible in XL. Are there any clever ways to do this other than the obvious use of the menu?

2 - 2 Auto Load folders. What's the point. I set 2 before and it just loaded up the first of the two folders - have I missed something?

3 - When you are chopping a sample you have to use the arrow keys to move to the next chop, right? Would it be worth suggesting to JJ using two of the pads (maybe 14 & 15) as a 'to next'/'to previous' chop. (i get that the left hand side pads allow you to edit the start point, right hand pads edit the end point, but moving to the next chop can only be done with the arrow keys and then you have to 'arrow' out of the chop #). Again, am I missing something here? It'd be nice (and quick) to navigate solely with the pads...what do you think?

4 - I can make my mpc trigger devices in reason, but the notes are recorded in the MPCs sequencer. Can the notes be recorded in reason?

Thanks

Seriously! What the ****?? this is so irritating.

Also, i wish he would make new NDC programs always use the name of the sample you're chopping

both of these things are not that big of a deal, but they make a huge difference in workflow...

When chopping as normal start at the far right hand chop, zoom in and work left when adjusting slice points. That way you are always at the start position for every chop.

I absolutely hate it that the left-hand pads jump to the start point and right-hand jumps to the end point. It's sooo frustrating. I don't wanna be switchin between pads to listen to my sample/chop when doing swift edits. It's a complete nightmare. Please fix this JJ. I want PAD6 to NOT make the cursor jump from endvalue to startvalue! Thanks.

I have been trying to ask him if it would be possible to implementa exact this feature to speed up the workflow but no answer... Maybe more people should ask him...

Are suggestions done via the bug report
http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/bug/report.htm
?
Thanks for that tip jimmie.

Just to clarify, I'm talking about both NDC and normal chop/slice mode.
Also, convert NDC chops/program to normal program would be a nice feature - I'm sure I've heard people mention it here in the past - was there any feedback on that?

#4 - Solved - by adding other generic (Other) MIDI Keyboard in Reason's MIDI properties I can now record the notes in Reason's Sequencer. If you want more details I'm happy to explain

#1 - Can anyone help with a yay or nay?

Thanks

rarara wrote:#1 - in drum edit both swing and timing shift are controllable by the q-links. its not exactly real time though

By pressing Shift + Tap Tempo it is real time (pressing a pad and changing the q-links works in real time), so thanks

I'm gonna suggest the next chop/previous chop with pads 13/15 through the bug report. The more the merrier...

hmmm, not exactly ideal as i see it though. i'd rather you were able to have a drum pattern already layed down and then while its playing alter the swing/shift

That'd be very nice indeed.
If you could alter the swing/shift of individual pads (pre-recorded hits) as the beat played.

GRID EDIT-LOOP EDIT-change shift in real time while the beat plays??

Yeah, but being able to change the swing and shift of recorded hits on a per-pad basis whilst the entire sequence is playing (not just 1 bar, which is tiny when you double the tempo like I usually do) would be good. Plus loop edit falls down when you set your sequences to 8/4.

yeah your right, I was just about to correct myself as I just tried it....

It would be a very very good feature, I think drums would come out a lot more non machine with this feature.

Yeah I use grid edit solely for high hats, more tweaking velocity of each hit an I often use loop edit for laying down different patterns.

A little tip if you don't do this already, take the (or one of the) high hats your gonna use for your beat, lay down like 4 or 5 diff variations of it in loop edit using diff patterns, then turn all but one of the tracks/patterns almost all the way down so you pretty much can't hear it. It's a really cool way to get nice ghost notes.

night night.
