I heard some amazing things from some small amount of wavestation users but for sure I know what it's capable of other than the dated presets....and it's seriously nice when you unlock that potential, wanted one for quite a bit.
But here goes...it's badly laid out just for the sake of being complex lol To say it's annoying is some thing hahah
It sounds really nice to be honest I played the VST too and the hardware is really nice although not too dissimilar to the software sound wise..perhaps the hardware sounds slightly nicer, the A/D has the big screen and in theory very easy to program cos everything is there like on a S-3000, audio inputs etc compared to the SR...sound wise > now get it if you want that Korg wavestation sound other wise things like the Blofeld do what it does a LOT easyer with a lot less headaches and with exotic filtering.
I'll concentrate on the bad bits...
The thing has 3 manuals...yes 3!
The patch architecture is something else man! Programs must consist of patches and patches must be assigned to programs. The result is that any patch change modifies every performance using it. Unlike the M1 you don't have Combi or Single mode..every program or what ever you call it is a performance.
The filter is non resonant but it's not as bad as it sounds...
This is my first week with it so I can't say too much but if you have the time and patience this thing can sound so nice! Some of it's presets scream to be tweaked and they do show you what it's capable of.
Worth the hype? Kind of...I used to have a X5DR back in school and with enough messing with it you could get almost the same pads minus the wave sequencing which I'm not that big on and vector shiz which is again nothing too special imo
