pro tools 8 le + digi002 + mpc2500 help plz

if you own a digi002 mixer can you guide me...

ok so last week i got a digi002 mixer for cheap, just got pro tools 8 le, i am just scratching the surface on these two (and my head).. first time pro tools user, and i really like it so far!!!

i'm just trying to find a good workflow again, very overwhelming with so much equipment now, but i'll try keep it simple.

i just want to know the best way to hook up;

mpc2500 (into 7&8?)
fantomx6(into 5&6?)
to
digi002+pro tools
(and use 1-4 for mics/guitars etc)

atm i can't here the mp or fantom, i have sort of figured out 'standalone mode', but trying to fiigure it out with pt now..

and how should i route the midi so i can use the fantom as a controller for pt

fantom (in & out) to mp(in1& outA), then mp(in2 & out b) to digi002 (in & out)..??

Do you want the Fantom to input midi notes to the MPC sequencer, the Pro Tools sequencer or both?

What midi ins/ outs does the Fantom have available (midi ports, USB etc)?

the fantom has midi in/out/thru and usb midi...

i want to use mpc as the main sequencer, and be able to trigger pt with my fantom..
i can trigger pt with my mpc's pads, but not from the fantom keys, i could never figure it out with logic 8 either. i been youtubing all night and im getting there.

both would be nice though...

i just want a good workflow, but pt seems way easier & straight forward than logic, to use as a sequencer..

i know i can only answer the goodwork flow question... but just want to know the most efficient way.

mpc=drums/samples/sequencer
fantom=controller/synth
pt=multitrack/module
digi002=interface

of you don't care if the keyboard controls the 2500, then use the usb port into your computer...

it will allow all the functions to work and free up a midi port.



Start 3 tracks....


1 MIDI
1 AUX (stereo)
1 Audio (stereo)



insert any program plug into the aux (IE battery, Massive) anything you have...

Plug in usb

on the midi track, select input device to be the USB (or all)

record ready MIDI track.

tap keys, if should light the meter bar so show it is recieving note data...



NOW... send the output of the MIDI track to the plug in (massive etc)

The midi track should now trigger the plug in you have on the aux track...


Finally...

once you got something recorded (to midi track as data notes)... it will be playing the plug in. .... to print it to usable audio... change the output of the AUX track to BUS 1/2.


set input of the AUDIO track to BUS 1/2... and record ready (make sure midi track is no longer record ready'd)


press recordplaystart/// it should print the audio coming out of the AUX track to a real AUDIO track while recording.



the best for your setup would be to send midi out of the 002 to the midi IN 1 of the MPC...

set Protools session to the same BPM as your MPC sequence (or song).


go to mode MIDI on your 2500... set to midi clock receive channel 1


press record playstart... your mpc should start.

if not, go to your protools options... midi... find where the check boxes are to turn on protools sending midi clock out the ports... then try again (don't know where it is on 8 exactly... dig for it.


then your mpc will be slaved to the protools grid... your fantom can control your VST's or plug ins, and if you ever want your fantom to control your MPC, send the MIDI cable out of your fantom, to the OTHER in of your MPC.

same thing with if you want your MPC to control your fantom sounds... send the OUT A to the IN of your fantom.


********many usb midi devices can only send data out one source at a time... USB or physical MIDI port.. so you may need to unplug the USB cable to make your physical MIDI port send data...


see if this is the case. probably take you a half hour to get it if you take this step by step above.

When I had the Digi 002 and Oxygen 8 MIDI contoller keyboard, it was set like this.

My keyboard USB Midi was connected straight to the computer (controls all softsynths etc/ midi input).

My keyboard MIDI OUT port was connected directly to the MPC4000 MIDI IN port (Midi input to MPC sequencer).

I had to select which MIDI output was currently active using a rear-mounted switch on the keyboard.

Therefore the MIDI keyboard was connected and ready to with both hardware and software at all times.
