Shopping for some good drums

i could be COMPLETELY wrong, but i guess it depends on who your talking to.....I've always thought sample packs are "taking the easy way out". I mean if your someone that doesnt sample off vinyl or sample other sources and mix your own sounds, then i could see why you may wanna buy some packs, but if you own a sampler, wouldnt it be common sense to SAMPLE your sounds. I dont see the logic in buying a sampler just sequence out tracks using BOUGHT sounds.

With rack samplers it was quite common to buy samples. Opposed to keyboards and soundmodules, with the comming of the rack sampler it was finally possible to pick and load in ur own sounds with the amazing possibility to also sample ur own sounds if u wanted to.

Untill hiphop DJ's/producers started messing with samplers and took it to a whole another level. From using pre-recorded sounds to replace for example a live violin player, to sampling all ur sounds from drums to phrases and play them back with the same unit. Also because of the DJ's involvement in hiphop production and it roots, it was very logical and convenient to use records as a sound source.
Because Hiphop producers and DJ's have done this for over two decades now, sampled drums is one of the significant sounds of Hiphop production. So when trying to emulate or create 'that' Hiphop vibe it's highly recommended to use vinyl samples.

But for other music genre's it allowed people to have a grand piano without buying one, which in my opinion was responsible for a greater freedom for musicians and compossers.

And btw, it's Hiphop, there are no rules. If u can create the desired results with library sounds, then why not?

It feels good to make your own drums. I can see where sample packs are useful, but I get some kind of anal-retentive thrill from making my own kits.
