NI MASCHINE - constantly upgrading. (Ver. 1.6)

im sayin its all well n good to like akia but to become blind to any other system is ignorance, if ur happy with ur setup/workflow cool but those who want more out of they setup r looking for new systems to allow them to work in the way they envision and the success of maschine shows that peeps want different methods then offered by existing manufacturers.

the over zealous mpc fanboys will do well to remember the 1k pad issues and the bullshit os nukai dished out, thats how much they give a **** about u all.

the idea of being loyal to manufacturer amuses me end of the day who ever brings the product package and functionality that i need is who im **** with the end of it.

^^^^^^^ Couldn't agree more with the above comments. (and i am one of those 1k pad and sh!tty OS victims) lol I use a mpc1k + S3000 combo which i have taken the time to learn. This is what i am comfortable with. Maschine looks very intriguing and very promising. For me however there's not enough there yet for me to make the jump. We will see when maschine 2 comes out. lol

I dont think its being loyal to akai so much as appreciating the roll of the drum sequencer has played in a world where most other units dont stand up so well.I mean its like 20 years and the unit is still basically the same idea.companys have come and gone.I made stuff on mpc s quicker and with less stress than other products.Thats it!!!Mashine is the same basic concept so it must be good.right??Just dont agree wirh the nue wave of mpc killer nonesense thats come with it.think i would need two computers tho to run the programes i want to at the same time.peace

we can all pay homage to what the mpc brings to the game but the sequencer aint magic it is being copied cos the concept is sound but other less complacent companies may be better placed to take the concept forward as the nukia dudes seem a but flat footed in offering the products/features that the users want.

me im ready to jump the only thing that would finalize the deal is vst hosting, and mp3 importing

I can imagine that you want VST hosting, but I wouldn't let mp3 importing be a dealbreaker. It's so easy to convert a .mp3 file to a .wav file.

converting mp3 is quick but wav take up space plus it would be nice to open a folder full ofg mp3 albums grab a track non destructively edit it in a beat without having to create more wav files then r necessary

I hear you about mp3 import and plugin hosting. I'm sure they will be implemented at some point, along with timestretch that's coming, and when that happens I would most likely use Maschine strictly in standalone mode and nothing else. But for now, I find Maschine to be a perfect fit to Live since it provides mp3 import, timestretch, and vst hosting. And Live is a more flexible arranger and offers more tools for those who need it like sidechaining.

according to him he isnt...but in the maschine thread that got deleted when I mentioned NI salesman on the forum without any name dropping whatsoever...for some reason he felt it was directed towards him and needed to respond

I honestly believe we have several NI employees in these Maschine threads. They typically post all the quotes from the NI site and videos but don't specifically address any of Maschine's shortcomings. And there are many. They merely hype things that (from an MPC users perspective) are not significant at all.

Anyway....there is a feature implemented in Maschine that has been a long time request from MPC Forum members. This is independent lengths of tracks. While Maschine doesn't have tracks in the traditional sense, you can apply different lengths and swing settings to each of the 8 Groups. In other words, you can assign a 16 bar drum pattern in Group A, a 4 bar bass pattern in Group B, a 8 bar piano pattern in Group C, etc. With this project, while the drums play for 16 bars, the bass pattern will play four times and the piano will play twice. This is a nice feature that I miss using on my Triton Studio.

If there are NI employees around here tell the management that we want Traktor Scratch Pro to support the Numark NS7.

I have an MPC5000 and a Maschine.
Latest update for MPC was more then one year ago as where Maschine gets updates more frequently.
As updates and new functionality based upon users (my) input is extremely important to me, my MPC is gathering dust since I bought the Maschine.

For me it gathers a couple of functions that are important :
-combine tracks with different loop lengths
-easy and sensible implementation of FX (on 1 sound, group, or master) and a lot of useable FX besides the reverb/chorus/compression/delay
-in Grid mode pattern can be changed while sequencer is running (on MPC I have to stop the sequencer when in grid mode otherwise I can almost never select the correct note)
-the computer screen is not necessary, but is a welcome add on if you don't want to look at the small screens all the time (which works perfectly)
-every knob is automateable (whereas in MPC this is very limited)

what is "grid mode"?
