recording with midi interface, how?

I have an mpc1000, an m-box with pro tools, and I just bought a midi interface with 2 outs and 1 in. how do I hook up my stuff and what settings should I change in pro tools and in the mpc1000 in order for me to be able to record my beats into protools by midisync

Maybe Im a bit impatient here, but a very good thing is to read the manuals before bothering others with newbie hookup-questions. Is there something in your setup that works? Is there somthing specifik that doesnt work?

Silly question: why do you want to send your beats from the MPC to ProTools? What will that do that you can't do in the MPC? The two are not 100% compatible, you will lose information in the transfer.
- you could send the MIDI data, but that would not transfer the sounds automatically.
- so you could record the Audio, but then you have to rearrange it into patterns i.e. repeat the work you did on the MPC?
Remember, ProTools will not understand PGM files, you will lose Pad / MIDI Note mappings from the MPC.

I say:
- use the MPC as for what it does best (drums, loops, live samples), use ProTools for what it's good at (vocal tracks, whatever),
- sync them together with the MPC as the master, ProTools as slave so they act as one big sequencer.
- Then let all the sounds come together at mixdown, both sequencers working together to create one Big track.

You don't know how to do all this now? Hit the books, and find your way, we can't give you exact instructions for your setup, you need to understand it all yourself, to be flexible and creative.

i couldn't disagree more, as far as sending mpc sounds to protools

by doing this, you can use plug ins on each sound, (boost up drums and whatnot. re-arrange the tracks....

just my 2 cents. i know why he needs to midi up mpc+protools.

he wants to so when he sends each track they're synched....

however i don't know how to do this with mbox

Oh, I'm not arguing against treating individual sound samples, with whatever you can get hold of. Then the "transfer" is just loading and saving WAV files. I use DirectX FX in Adobe Audition that way, no sequencer involved. I thought the question was about transferring whole tracks or sequences, keeping the arrangement - not the same thing at all.

If I tried to transfer some of my stuff from MPC to any sequencer, I would have to rearrange it all in the sequencer - pointless, since the MPC already does the job. That's all I meant...
