resetting/deleting/overwriting recorded mixer data?

Sorry not sure if this should be in here or production techniques, and i tried searching and got close but no cigar.

I have a short little 2 bar intro sequence that has 4 notes with the last note(sample) a pan from left to right. Originally I think I had just recorded it with the q-link while in the MAIN screen but then once I learned about recording the LEVEL/PAN Straight from the Mixer screen i gave that a shot and it came out clean, however the last few silent section of the recording leaves with a "recorded pan" of like 50 to the right. For some strange reason everytime I play back the sequence, whatever click or notch of pan that the mixer was left on, the whole sequence will start from that position. For instance If I play and then pause while the pan of the last note is at 2 o'clock , if i press playstart, my sample sound comes out as two oclock, even in song mode and everything. If anyone knows why it's doing this please let me know how to fix it (even when record mix change is on/off it makes no...

... diference).
So for whatever reason that happens i have no idea, but i have a second problem:
When I go to overdub the pan data, it only adds to what I have already recorded. For instance If I want to have zero pan throughout the whole sequence, naturally I could just overdub the data and keep the nob at 12 oclock right? No, it still trys to throw in the previous pan data regardless of anything I try to do. Well the only thing left is to go Step Edit and just manually delete the data, well with all the overdubbing and all, sure I can do it manually but it will only take 157 presses of the F4 key (yes, i counted) .. no fun at all. I've done it a couple of times and call me lazy but there has to be an easier way. So how can I just overdub record in the mixer to "Erase" the pans that have already been set in place??

the automation only records data when the slider is in motion. if you have the qlink pan set hard right, & then start recording... you're actually not recording anything until you touch the slider and give it a nudge.

what i would do, after that intro section with the sample that pans right - when the main sequence starts, record and give the pan slider a little nudge & then stop. go into STEP EDIT and change that pan event that you just created when you nudged the slider to 0. this will allow the pan to 'snap back' to it's center position. if you don't record a new 'center' event then everything will just continue along at whatever the pan was when you last recorded it (in the case, panned hard right).

also, it would be a good idea to put whatever you are going to pan on it's own seperate track. that way, no matter what panning you do it will only effect what is on that track and nothing else. so even if you screw up the damage is contained somewhat and you don't have to correct so much.

also, if you screw up a pan, don't forget about the UNDO SEQ key. if you catch your error right away you can fix everything with one press of that key (it will be lit up red) instead of doing all the tedious microsurgery in STEP EDIT.
