Thanks again to everyone for the suggestions. I'm gonna build a new tower fosho now, and I think I will cop a 1010, probably will go for the non-LT, just for the rack unit. Guess I need to get a rack too!

my only dislike about the 1010 is that without a mixer or a master volume control knob, its tough to control loud volumes quickly.. sometimes i play a mp3 and BOOM loud ass music starts playing and i find my self shuffling around on the desktop to lower the volume..

my quick fix was the TC Electronic Level Pilot.

but other than that i highly recommend the 1010, you can find a good deal for them on ebay. just make sure you find one with everything included, not just the breakout box. i dont know of any alternatives for the pci card. but i was considering buying one for cheap that only had the break out box for around $160, then bidding on a pci card.. a few days later the pci card went for about $120 so it would have been pointless.

YEEEAAAHHH!!!! I won the rackmount for $190! Plus , the system requirements are extraordinarily low. I have an old tower that's way above requirements. I read this review at tweakheads : http://tweakheadz.com/reviews/review_of_the_delta_1010.htm

My old Dell collecting dust takes a huge crap on that guys' pc. Sooo, I bought an extra GB of ddr, and I'll snatch a TB hard disk drive to record onto today. I'm still waaaay under budget! Anybody got a black MPC 1000 case for sale?

I appreciate the help, everyone. I think Pound put me over the top though, I need to think toward compatibility, professionalism and the future. I had no idea the world of ProTools was so cheap or easy to enter. Fantastic.

Well for usb interfaces for protools you're gonna be ****, I mean they work fine, but 2 in's/out's. You have either the mbox 2 or mbox mini. You might wanna look into getting a firewire hookup  .

See, now, I compose with my mpc and Sonar or sometimes Reaper. So, I can stay with them 2 DAWs on my laptop, basically using my laptop as a sound module. That's what I do now, but I only run one out (spdif into my mpc, with input thru on).
I could still use a multi-out usb interface there, which doesn't have to be PT compatible. I'll just run cords to my new 1010!

So I've come full-circle back to my original question! I'll be checking out the other suggestions. This forum has helped me step my ish up massively. Too bad everybody outside of my city thinks my beats suck, lol!
