Making Sure It Hasn't Been Sampled

do you guys know of any other sites besides whosampled that you can doublecheck to make sure something hasn't been sampled?

yeah but the best thing to do (if theres any chance of it having been sampled already) is use the sample in a way that no one has used it.... chop small

you know these sites save the search terms so they can find out what you want to sample and steal the idea!!!

No site will leave you sure that a track hasnt been sampled, theres just too much to cover. Visiting those sites will only help you avoid sampling the classics.

If I want a little peace of mind, I use shazam and If it cant identify it, Im confident im using something thats obscure enough to have not been sampled already (though It still may have been sampled before).

Agreed... I only search to get an idea of how rare an album/artist maybe. And even then, that only tells me wether I should tell folk what I sampled or keep em guessin. Familiarity won't keep me from flippin a sample.

what's "shazam"? hopefully something that's not on the PC only.

the bottom line for me is that i just try to avoid sampling shit that's been done before. thanks again for the help

i doubt everything has been sampled... i've found plenty of shit that hasn't been sampled to my knowledge. also, if it was sampled by a no-name and nobody's ever gonna hear it, that counts as not being sampled.

however, you're all right when it comes to adding your own flavor and all that. i've heard samples being flipped by 2 artists, one being awful and one being good, so the awful one doesn't even count after that.

yeah i dont follow those rules either ,i'm a dj /collector first,plus never heard half of the stuff out today. but, i can tell you if its been sampled or remade from another song .usually if its in the top 40 its not original music

It can be interesting to know where an who used the sample, but don't let it stop you from using it. You can flip it a different way. Make it yours.
