need some opinions on multitrack digital recorder?

I've never personally used a multitrack recorder, and i've got some friends that are needing to record 1 bass guitar and 2 other guitars and my 500 for their drums, so i need a recorder that can record at least 4 tracks at once. i've been looking around zzounds and guitarcenter, but just need some info from some of ya'll that actually have one.

new or used?

is something you want to keep and use forever, or just for this one project?

tascam dp 02 is decent

Yo...look up the tascam 788 used. It handles 8 tracks at a time. They came out about 5 years ago for abou 400. You can probably get one used for a couple hundred.

Tascam Neo is already for $650 or the DP-02 CD is down to $350 at Musician's Friend.
