Anyone know or heard of Gary Burton

I came across one of his records a couple of days ago and found alot of good shit on it. In particular a couple of open funky piano, drum, and string sections, one of which sounded familiar. Just wondering if anyone knows his shit or if he was/is one of those artists that are pretty much unheard of...

I know PEte Rock sampled him on his petestrumentals album, and jay dilla was sampling his stuff when he made them beats for pharcydes second album.

his best set imho opinion is GOOD VIBES on Atlantic. with the mesmerising 'Las Vegas Tango' - sampled quite a few times most notable for Organised Konfusion's 'Stress'.

the pete rock - dilla - tribe samples are from his sets for the geman ECM label... Cristal Silence, Gary Burton's New Quartet, etc.

good with the vibes he surely is... but king? think i'll give that title to latin maestro Cal Tjader, Sadi or Roy Ayers....

There are a million cats out there that i like but sometimes i can't remember the names.I got more pertinent ish to try to remember than every artist i've ever heard or listened too.I probably have some Gary Burton around here but haven't made it around to listening to it.
