Working WIth Swing

i honestly don't know too much about swing but i can tell it's pretty crucial for good drums, so i've been searching the forums and reading, but one thing i'm curious about is the best way to work with swing and tweak it til it sounds good.

does the swing setting you have set at first take effect as soon as you start recording? or do you have to record and then set the swing each time?

Best thing is to mess around with the swing and see how it sounds to you. You can record with a certain amount of swing, and keep adjusting it to the feel you want after you record it. It's really all about what you want and the feel of your track. Just make sure your tracks are separated.

is there a good way to adjust it in "real time" (or is it even possible)?

I will usually lay down my drums, with absolutely everything on different tracks, even if this means using 10 or more....then I will go to grid edit-loop edit-then mess around with the pattern changing velocities and indeed swing which is changed by the shift function.

Thats how I do it in real time anyway, for me it's easier that changing it in the tc then laying down the beats cos unless it's like 1/16 with a swing of 50 or 65 etc you never (well I don't anyway) know how it's gonna sound.

pattern edit (which now seems to come up as loop edit, maybe that changed with a jj version update) is for me the best way to add dynamics to a beat/groove.

yes, it's in the jjos manual. you can assign swing and shift to the sliders. then adjust in real time to get the feel you like. check the settings and save.

hello..i couldnt find this real time option for swing and shift on the jjos manual on the net,,its a bit confused,,would u be so kind to point where on the manual is? thanks in advance..
