Also emulators are nice an all but I do what the real thing and I got some games in particular that has soundtrack plus sound efx in the options. I forgot about NES having the A/V out puts. I got the Top Loader NES.

top loader nes is nice.. no region lock chip in it so you can play japanese games without an adapter. you should check out doki doki panic... you might be surprised when you see that game. (I recommend youtube searching that if you never heard of it)

actually it's true, doki doki was on the famicom disk system, not in cart form. my bad.

do you have a genesis tracker program? I would be down to try and write some genesis music code.

I think they have a 6 channel fm synth in the genesis.

Theres a pretty decent one at this russian site http://nedopc.com/soft.php just click on the "TFM Music Maker v1.4 (Win32)" link to download it. It comes with all necessary compilers to play your exported .tfd files through the console too, I haven't tried this yet though, and i dont think you can play through the console realtime. Theres heaps of other ones here too, http://woolyss.com/tracking-trackers.php

okay thanks for the link, I will check it out. You wont be able to play the sounds made on it through the genesis/MD in real time. The code you are making with the trackers must be written into a program for the genesis to read. it reads the code instructions and sends the commands to the synth. It uses a number system for notes, vibrato, sustain, transpose.. all that and all that. I am not sure what features the genesis all has yet.

For the 8-bit NES, Wayfar made the MIDINES cart which allows you to use your Nintendo like a musical instrument.

For the Atari 2600 there's Synthcart ( no midi control, but you can get some sick sounds out of that old beast).
