Ive always done stereo out trackin but this time i wanted to try the assignable outs to take advantage of my 003 8 inputs.So i assign my drums to the four assignable outs! 2 kicks,2 snares each with there own output,open up pro tools and configure the inputs,record etc. When i played it back i noticed a buzz noise on each track,more so when there all playin at the same time (I tried the preamps and DI inputs on the 003,same noise prob).I dont know whats causing this and i dont get no buzz when i record from the stereo output at all.Has anyone one encountered this prob before? is there a remedy? Id really like to take advantage of all the inputs on my 003 console considering how much money i spent on it! and faster trackin as well.

there is one persistent enemy in electronic music production: GROUND LOOPS!!! this means that a difference in relative voltage (not absolute) between the sound source (MPC) and sound receiver (003) leads to small currents (equalizing currents, having nothing to do with an equalizer in the audio sense of the word...), running over the "ground" connection of the leads. This, in turn, leads to the buzzing noise, as the common-mode-rejection of the inputs stages often cannot handle this.
As all outputs of the MPC show the same electrical circuitry, I assume you use the symmetrical inputs of the 003 for the main MPC outputs, and the inputs 5-8 of the 003 (which are unsymmetrical) for the individual outs of the MPC. This is the only explanation which I can find to explain why the main out does NOT show the noise, and the individual outs DO show this noise.
Computer Audio Interfaces are extremely vulnerable to ground loops, as those often have their OWN power cord, and recevie another ground connection from the PC/MAC via Firewire and USB.

To solve the problem, there are a number of options:
- find 3 mains outlets which are physically as close as possible
- turn around the mains power plugs of one or two of the devices 180 degrees
- not recommended because of DANGER: isolate the ground pin with some duct tape
- buy audio isolation transformers for EACH audio line and connect those between your MPC and the 003
