Hi all,

I've been looking for a used 2000xl for years, to make some company to my little 500, lol, and I found one for a good price. The thing is, altough it has 32mb ram, it only has the floppy drive, no zip or cf reader. I searched but can't find some hints on how many floppies do I need per beat, 1, 2? And if I put a external zip drives, how many zip drives will I need?

I need some quick answers, so the guy wont sell it to anyone else, lol!!

Well, thanks in advance!

Peace,

Stereo Tipo

The thing is that you need to check how much the extras cost...

Memory means nothing as an upgrade because it can be simple PC ram
so it is worth nothing.

One floppy is 1.44 MB.... 32 ram / 1.44 = 23 floppies
if you fill up all the memory.

In my beats I use about 7 - 10 MB hence it would be 5 - 7 floppies for me....

100 MB zips..... 3 projects minimum...... with that I would use 1 Zip per 20-30 projects assuming some same sounds are used

See how much is one sold with a cf reader.... take out about 150 us dollars if i am not wrong
and then that should be the price you would buy it with no cf.
I would recomend that you make the upgrade to CF as it is quicker easier
and for ME more trust worth it...

Thanks for that math on the floppies, lol, now it's clear! ;)

I know that the extras are very important on deciding, but the guy is asking 400€, which is a good price, don't u think? As far as I know, the zip reader is easy to instal, just a cable, although zip floppies are becoming rare.. but I'm guessing that the cf reader would be harder to install...

BTW with the zip driver I can choose to use floppies or zips (by removing the reader), right? How does it go with the cf reader?

with an external zip drive (conncected with an scsi cable on the back of the mpc), you can use the floppy as well. you can save and load from floppy and from zip.

you could install an internal zip drive or an internal cf reader. therefor you have to uninstall the floppy drive and install the desired drive.

I just sent you an email.

Are you from europe carbono? If yes 400€ is a good price but for the us it's a bit expensive. I bought one 2k XL in the US for about 350€ and one in germany for about 610€, with expansion board, 32Mb and in a very good shape, but some others are even paying 600€ for a normal 2k XL. In europe they are really expansive at these days. My personal opinion is: get it for 400 or try to get it a bit cheaper, but it's a already good price.

I use 2 GB sandisk cards on my XL with IDE reader.

1 GB per card is just about enough for me to have all my sounds and programs on.

When you insert your 2gb card, it onlt recognizes 1gb, right? The same happens with 4gb and so on?So, we're not in danger if the 1gb vanishes from the market? (I only find >2gb cards..)
