Dead MPC 3000 :(

First of all best of luck and hope you can fix it... on the other hand how can you not know that this will happen with equipment from the states?

i had the same thing last night , i moved all my gear and plugged it in again in a hurry.
took the wrong cable for my mpc 3000 and the fuse blew. ( like lightning in the dark )

stupid stupid stupid and very dumb.....

but....

just replace the 1a fuse (it's a 125 volt but 250 volt works fine if you could not get one like me) , the other 3 should be just fine.
and if all is good you will be making beats in a minute.

( i live in europe, and accidentally used the main 230 volt cable for my sp1200, the 3000 is US version)

I've read this thread a couple of times but would appreciate if someone would clarify. If I buy an mpc 3000 from the US and I'm based in UK - is a step down transformer all I need ?
(assuming I don't accidentally blow the fuse in the box beforehand).

I know someone who did this with an asr-10 he bought - he ended up sending the unit off to get fixed - then used a transformer when it was returned.
Point is - if he had not made the mistake of blowing the fuse beforehand (he plugged it straight into the wall) would just using the transformer have been ok - or would he still have had to make some changes to the unit.
I think its the former - but would just like to make sure.

yes just get a 115 to wathever the voltage is in your country and you're set .
Concerning replacing 125 volts fuses by 220 volts ones , i'm not sure it's a good idea even if it works , any tech around to confirm ?

it is obviously the dumbest thing in the world you can do. A 250 fuse will not protect your machine.

the machine is designed so that is more then 125 volts goes in... the fuse protects the machine by blowing. The 250 will only protect it if more then 250 goes in. That basically is the equivalent of putting a piece of wire across instead of a fuse.

I know this thread is way dead, but do you think the same principles would apply if someone (myself) were to blow up their MPC500? I'vwe managed to do the same thing and wanna know if repair is possible

I had exactly the same thing happen to an ASR-10 which I bought from the States, managed to get the thing home after a 2 hour train journey and 30 mins walking in the rain only to havea bright flash of light as soon as I plugged it in.
So I'd have thought the principle works for other stuff.
For those in the UK - Maplins do a step-down transformer which I have 2 of. One for the mpc 3000 and one for the asr-10. Works a treat.
