MPC 2000XL SE3 won`t recognize any CF-Reader

I own a silver MPC 2000XL SE3. After my old external JAZ-Drive got broke, I wanted to replace the Floppy-Drive with a Flash-Card Reader. But my MPC seems to not recognize any Card Readers.

First I tried a Delock IDE Card Reader (see: http://cgi.ebay.de/DeLock-Kartenleser-CF-I-CF-II-PC-Card-IDE-/400119335577?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Kartenleseger%C3%A4te&hash=item5d28f88a99)

...second a Flash Card adaptor (see: http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/product/971426/DUO-COMPACT-FLASH-64CM25-IDE-BRIDGE/SHOP_AREA_37572&promotionareaSearchDetail=005)

...third a similar Flash Card Adaptor in a assembly frame. (see: http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/product/974837/IDE-COMPACTFLASH-ADAPTER-MIT-RAHMEN/SHOP_AREA_17130). I read in various forum posts, that this one worked in alot of MPC 2000xl.

...and finally I tried a internal ZIP-Drive through the internal SCSI-Port.


While the internal Floppy Drive works normally, none of the above stated internal Readers/Drives worked. I tried different CF-Cards as well. I tried 1.San Disk Ultra II 256mb, 2. Simple Tech 1gb (slcf 1ghbht2-433), 3. Akai CF 128mb of mpc500.


Anybody had the same problem with using internal Drives?
Anybody knows what could be the problem?

well often for IDE/atapi card readers to be recognized or even seen by the machine... you need to install OS 1.20 first before you put in the reader (you cant install from the reader if the mpc doesn't know it's there)

yeah but usually they are scsi drives. You know what though, if you dont mind paying a bit of dough on it scsi for samplers has a reader that apparently lets you use 16gb cards. personally I didnt know cf cards even went up that high. I dont think hot swappable cards is important since even if you have a 1gb card chances are that 1 card is enough to save a project.

Atapi are the hotswapable ones
and I think they used to be the ones mpcstuff sold back in the days

not all atapi readers are hot swappable.

Wasnt the old ATAPI from mpc-stuff that were hotswap?

they had both a hot swappable one and a non hot swappable one. Then they had the scsi ones that were hot swappable and could run on OS 1.14, and now scsi for samplers apparently has a non hotswappable one that runs on os 1.14 and takes 16 gig cards.

i sent a mail to mpcstuff.com.
reply was that the card reader they are selling now is not hot swappable.

I would prefer hot swappable card reader for the reason, that the audio-editing functions on the mpc2000xl are very limited. Not even normalization is possible. I work with two MPCs (500 + 2000xl) and like to shift samples between the two and sometimes to PC and back.

well good luck finding one then. Either you reboot your mpc2000xl or you pay a fortune for the hot swappable card reader.

but it does not work dont know whats wrong, i already installed os 1.20..

what is it doing? how do you know it isn't working?

because it should be displayed in load screen as ATAPI device i think, but it does not now i have internal zip drive (also ATAPI)
