jacking is jacking regardless of what degree it is. If you got an MPC then more than likely you jacking sounds. Who really cares what era it is? Ya still jacking somebodies sh*t. Ya still stealing. That's like saying stealing a 83 Mustang is a lesser degree than stealing a 2005 7 series. In the Law's eyes- ya stealing....regardless.

*where's my new Soul-Survivor II? I need that snare  *

same dog different flees :P

i do agree about chopping loops though.. i was just talking about people who play loops in the track as is then claim it as theirs. that's just lame and again un-original...

Man, these baby cries are sniffling about DRUMS AND SNARES.........

Snares are drums boogie.

50/50 don't seem right, it seemed the guilty have sabotaged it because they just don't want a concensus.

Fine sample what you like, It's not like I was trying to stop you, but seriously, Adonis, if that's how you make tracks, that is some straight bull. Even for techno, layering loops from new techno records is bullshit. Get a frikkin 101, 303 and 909.

I was expecting to be in a minority, but this 50/50 shit seems like sabot age. If that's the way you guys run your game, then I'm done here.

No, it's just that 50% of us don't LIMIT ourselves to bullshchit codes and ethics when we're CREATING MUSIC.......

lol, since it didn't go YOUR WAY, now it's sabotaged......

Honestly, All I wanted to know is what the spread was, I was hoping to get a true representation, which I would suspect would be in your favor boogie, I don't think I am expressing a mojority view at all.

But it's obvious that something fishy is happening, no polls ever get 40 votes total, it looks like it may even have a limit. Weird.

if that's the case than doesn't roland own all copy rights to the sounds that come out of those beat boxes? shouldn't the originator have all those rights? no body cares where the sound came from just as long as the person who put it together got paid.. and if i'm listening to their record than chances are they did.

no one can own a sound.. they can own the rights to some lyrics and a mellody.. sound is all around us everyday so no one could possibly own the rights to them.

well, i dont think so. matter fact i sampled the synth from a song on the Love Jones album for my track "Poem About You."

I think it depends on what exactly it is you sample.....

By elmacaco Thu Sep 02, 2004 8:32 pm
Roland Does not own the rights to the sounds, that's bullshit, it's like a sample CD, you buy the rights with the gear. Does yamaha own the sounds of the violins they make?

Unless I'm mistaken, it isn't about sampling a synth sound, but getting recent techno records, grabbing the sounds off them, then making another recent techno record from them. Unless I'm mistaken.

I think Adonis was the guy who said it was so easy to make a hip hop track when drunk with his friends, he took a drum loop from one record, a bass loop from another, and a melody line from another and spent the rest of the night rhyming to it. Even if you chop them in recycle, it's a bit weak.

Nothing personal Adonis, it does bring forth an interesting discussion, but I guess you came to this as a DJ, so it isn't that far off from a remix I guess.

And smoove, it's what you do with that sample as well. I'm big into sound design, and there is a lot of good stuff done with samples, but it seems lie if some of these cats could push one button and make a hard track, that's what they'd do.

humm interesting.. i can see your point. perhaps if we all sold millions of records we might just have to consider the copywrite infringments we would be violating..(if any) but wait.. not enough A&R's have visited my house this week so i think i'll be safe for now.

this music is fun.. lets keep it that way. if you limit yourself to what you can and can't sample.. all your sh*t is going to start smelling the same.

That's exactly my point N8, if lots of people sample the current charts to make stuff that they want on those same charts, won't it start smelling the same, if it doesn't already?

Also, even for techno, if you sample the new shit and just take pieces from each and make your track, are you really doing anything Fresh?

OK Boogie, you talk about kicks and snares being OK, but how do you feel about just layering loops from recent records? Is it making music, is it a remix? It it wack, or dare I say, biting? I really just want to get at the thinking because I suspect it is the same on both sides, it's just where you draw the line.

a Drum hit is just one instance, whereas a drup loop is actual programming of many instances.... I hope you see what I'm getting at... A drum hit is just THE sound.... a drum loop is the sounds in ACTION, programmed by someone else....I hope you can see the difference in that...but in when you say "just layering loops", IMO to ME, it depends on how the song sounds...If I can just automatically tell where the loop is from, then no, I'm not feeling it because I've already heard that loop used before, in that manner....I'm not saying the producer who did it is wrong either, I"M just not feeling it...IF however, if the loop was indechiperable to me, and I was feeling the song, IT doesn't matter anyways because I'm still feeling the song....I'm a fan of MUSIC, not how it comes about.....simple as that, take it how you want it...........

This is dumb because every one got stupid rules, we ve all broke someone elses rules at a time, see while i dont think its a big deal to sample a fu*kin snare from wherever i want (a 18 page discussion on snares and kicks for christ sake...fu*kin losers here) i see it something like Recycle as cheating, while the next man might see sampling cds as wack, truth be told, who ghives a fu*k. I used to be close minded to, but fu*k limits.

& elmaco, binger, matt and others against sampling drums on the other thread are you telling me you get all your drums from original issue vinyl no on else has used..please dawgs, no comps, reissues or whatevs, no presets ever, sample cds, all vinyl samples....save it, or better yet your synthesisng drums on software. LOL1!
