my eyes don't determine good beats, but my ears like ones that repeat a cool sequence but is not too repetetive. also anything after 1998 with the 808 clap is unoriginal

by the way. It´s time for a new beat battle isn´t it? Anybody wants to start one?! ???

was thinking about this too... but how about a beat battle to see who can make the best club banger??! that would be different cos we all know everyone here has mastered 90s east coast boom bap, but who can really make something commercial that actually sounds good and would sound good in a club environment? i think itd be cool

Same here on the battle.

What makes a great beat to me is the drums mainly. If the melodies cool, but the drums/drum programming doesn't have that "feeling"/groove and/or if the drums just don't fit the melody(ie: a real aggressive melody with watered down drums that don't hit hard or match the aggressive melodies energy) that just kills it for me.
