don't remember the sequencer resolution of the sp1200, but yes sometime i've used that trick

hi guys i read an artical in future music where they compared the swing of the mpc 2500 with logic swing fuctions
what was very noticeable was that logic never moves the firist note where the mpc does , even though logic is very simler to the mpc movments with the rest of the notes .
only the mpc moves the firist note..

The chips that run the new series mpcs, from 2k onwards, are rock solid in their timing.

Years ago we conducted some clocking tests with various mpcs and found the 60s and 3ks all had a small variance and drifted. This allowed for the so called swing.

The chips today are rock solid in their consistency and the overriding factors are more to do with the time it takes for the pad contacts to relay a note on/off message.

The quantize values are timed accurately against any DAW and it comes down to how you structure your templates.

New Orleans Rappers wasn't even out when the mpc60 and 3000 was out, only the east cost Rappers. then the south and the west cost started coming out at the same time. that's when I stared seeing the mpc2000xl and the mpc2500.

the mpc60 came out around 1979 or 1980. Marcus miller produced Luther Vandross's first 7 albums on the mpc60. they would track the drums, and then they would track the symbols using real drums, after they tracked had with the mpc60.

you might say what does that have to do with anything, it has a lot to do with it, the New Orleans Rappers weren't even born when the mpc60 was out, they didn't know anything about it.

Really? Maybe i misread, but i've noticed that my 4k drifts out of time in cubase and i pretty much always have to chop it up and adjust manually.. I am assuming its the mpc though, but a loop that has been recorded, if it was rock solid i should for example be able to re-use the same snare layer pattern that i've done and timed correctly in the computer, but i cant, as the hits doesnt always hit the same on the mpc track that has been recorded, so i still have to adjust some of the hits manually.. Not complaining here though, just adds to make things feel more organic, which i love!

Yep...Also, it's "cymbals" :?

a lot of people are talking about the swing percentage and certain quantization quirks that give you the groove you're looking for

what about...

actually playing it how you want it to sound? no quantization.. just keep doing it over until you play it exactly how you hear it in your head

turn that TC off once and a while kids

from the middle onwards, he demonstrates different swing settings

a) it's in german
b) he's doing 4 on the floor house beats.. where's the soul in that?

anyways...

one of the great things about the MPC series is that there is NO latency between you hitting a pad and the sample playing. On a PC/Mac you're lucky to get your buffer down to 128 samples without your CPU crapping out. for this very reason, you are able to play beats on an MPC with the exact groove you are imagining. The only limitation is your hands and your rhythm. Even if its only your hi-hats that aren't Q'd its better than nothing. Try looping 1 bar of off-time hi hats for 4 bars and playing kicks and snares over it.
