Anyone using a SCI Prophet 600???

Just scored one, should be coming in a few days.

Any tips, tricks, loves/hates?

Had one on my bench for repairs a few months ago.

Pro:
simple interface
grimy sound
has presets
relatively compact for a vintage poly

Con:
simple voice architecture
grimy sound
prices today are retarded
membrane keypad (be gentle!)
some parts unobtanium (be gentle!)
steppy controls/MIDI (use the knobs for programming, not performance)


Have fun! It's somewhat limited in terms of sound shaping tools, but it's easy to get it to do what it's good at (this will be obvious). #1 P600 problem is unresponsiveness due to dirty pots (floods the primitive processor with control changes), dirty or disconnected ribbon connectors and dirty key contacts. These should be easy to fix DIY if you have basic skills and the internets. If you have real problems (bad membrane, chips etc.), get a tech.

I just found a prophet 600 and wow I am so impressed. First vintage synth I've owned. I have a question, I am midi handshaking with an MPC 1000 and sometimes it works perfectly. Sometimes, it seems that I need to just mess around with different tracks, start and stop the sequence a few times, hit a few keys on the Prophet and then it'll work. Any reason why this might be?
