SoundForge...quieter for some reason?

I've been noticing that when Im playing samples, drum tracks, hat/snare tracks inside of Sound Forge they are noticeably quieter than they are when i play them inside iTunes/WMP. I dont know if the program was made like that for mixing purposes or what, but whenever i export the track from SoundForge to iTunes, its like someone turned the volume from 50 to 90. I've checked my program sound levels, their all at a 100 when I'm using my mixer.

is it possible there is some sort of compression or normalizing going on in itunes? pr an eq of some sort?

Did you check your control panel audio levels?

I used to have a problem with the way I had my audio options set up in GOM Player where if I'd turn down the volume on some movie all my other audio levels would drop depending on how I had my audio options selected in another app. I changed it in GOM and problem went away.

is one of your apps using ASIO and the other using WDM or whatever? You can get different audio levels from using different drivers.

never thought about that Tao, i'll check that out and get back with ya. it just sucks because i've been mixing inside sound forge then playing it back to see what it sounds like in iTunes and its clipping like crazy

@mr_debauch, i turned off sound check and sound enhancer in iTunes, and i still have the problem

itunes also has an 'EQ+amp' thing

I use to mix in the box. Now, I like using an external mastering recorder since it gives me more control over the outcome of the mix.

And I use sf 8 as my two track editor too. It's basically used for normalizing and editing of the material recorded from the ext. cd recorder.

Been years since I used SoundForge... but isn't there a plugin to check for clipping?

Are you saving your files to a 'weird' format that iTunes is just doing something goofy with? Something other than 44.1khz/16bit? Have you tried playing through QuickTime to see if it also has the issue.

I'm guessing you're on Windows... true or not true?

maybe download something basic like video lan (vlc media player) which is amazing to have on any computer anyways since it is extremely small and works for every video and audio file I have ever used.... try it in there... maybe it could help know for sure where the problem lies.
