Portable samplers?

I'm starting to get bored at school/work and want to invest a little bit of cash in a portable sampler. Idealy, I'd like to get a MPC1000 as I'm familiar with mpc's, but my budget wont allow it. So, anything under the $300 that would fit in my backpack would be dope. Also if i can use it w/ my 4k, that'd be a real plus.

So far I've looked at the sp202, but it doesn't seem to be of much use without a sequencer. I checked the SU700, but it's far too big. The 303 is also in consideration, but there's gotta be something better than it in it's price range.

I just bought a Yamaha QY10, it's not a sampler but its a portable sequencer about the size of VCR tape and it runs on batteries. 30 PCM instrument sounds and 26 drum sounds- all 80's. Will be great for compositions on the move..kinda like a sketch pad. Beats @ the beach etc..

I'll review it when I get it, its in the post @ the mo'. Take it home and dump the midi files in the 4000.

ive been trough the su 10 and the qy10 and both are sic but the qy kinda has a learning curve.the su doesnt have muck sampling time.but a finger ribbon

Any tips you'd like to share for the QY?

es-1 all the way. decent seq, good effects, midi in out thru, u can slice stuff with it, a great lil joint.

and at radio shack u can rig em to a electric car battery. to make em portable.
