electro is about the massive boom kick and slammin, crackkin kick your face off snare.
so would hip hop heads class electro as boom bap or is it purely for certain bpms?

Boom Bap for me is having the beat hitting on 1/16 or 1/16(3rd).

The drums are usually sampled

If you can nod your head to the drums alone your in the right direction

The drums are layerd at times. Buh boom boom bap/ buh boom boom bap!

Filterd bass

chopped samples and layering, velocity on short stabs

Some elements of boom bap are:

record digging, sampling from vinyl, record sped up 45 +8, pitched down in the sampler, sampler colors the samples

drum breaks like the ones from Ultimate Breaks and Beats, All the Breaks and similar compilations, chopped, looped,replayed or played using individual drum hits

that perfect loop or chopped sample or stab that you can fit into 10 - 30 seconds of sample time (for example like on the SP1200 or MPC 60 or S950) - minimal samples

filtered and/or dirty basslines

dirty drums, loops or drum programing that makes your head bob and neck snap

I just broke into a bit of geriatric body popping listening to that track again. Sitting down, obviously. I was tempted to drop into a Caterpillar like back in the day but I'd probably put my back out now.

The Windmill was my dream move. I never got beyond looking like I was having a fit on the floor though.

Tried to perform a windmill two years ago…left my face with burn marks. Then I accepted breakdancing is only for those who are under 20

Yeah, I took up roller skating after that and proceeded to remove various bits of flesh with the aid of the pavements in my local neighbourhood. I probably should have stuck with Breakin'.
