Update the OS

So I'm writting because I am one voice and am on a mission to have AKAI update their OS for the MPC1000... I have rquested the following improvements that would help the MPC1000 compete with current software.

1. Step/grid sequencing - as seen on mpc2500 and jjos
2. Autochromatic assignment - as seen on mpc1000xl/2500 and jjos
3. Key/tempo lock - allows for dj style effects and quickly match sampled loops to beat witout effecting pitch or adjust pitch without effecting tempo. (similar to numark axis9)
4. Extract midi - allows for a midi sequence to be created from chopped loops to quickly allow sound replacement or layering... Many other ways to use (mpcmaid, and recycle can do this, but would be quicker and easier if it could be done in the machine)

Let's face it there is room for more improvements, but these are features they already have access to coding for, and could implement without to much of an issue. Not to mention it would help the MPC compete with software such Motu bpm, guru, ni maschine, beat thang sw, and others for the likes of cubase, cakewalk, and protools plugins... Just a thought, though it may fall on deaf ears???

Why not update to the JJ os? You state right in your post that JJ has already taken care of two of your requests. You can also send JJ a note with your ideas for improvement. This makes no sence to me. It's like asking NATO to rediscover America.

I have jjos, but it has more features than needed... Besides, why make a request to jj, I expect the company to support their product and provide beneficial updates to keep their products current and relevant to the market. I'm not asking for anything that isn't offered on other models or anything that's out of reach for the company. Just asking for an update that is beneficial for both parties... Give us some of the features offered on other models, and some not offered by competitors, keep the edge.

I hear you, and I agree with you. You just have to realize that your dealing with a company who wouldn't even release a new operating system to fix well documented problems simply saving and retrieving files. Then there's the pad issue. They did fix the pads, but all the people who bought it with the bad pads were screwed. Not only did they not give them to registered owners, they chose to charge way too high of a price and make money off of the people that were stuck with thier inferior product! This from a company with the "professional" in their name. Akai US was bought out by Numark a few years ago. I think that they are simply not a top priority. Also, even Akai seems to be going down the software rout. (Even if it is hardware controllers)

On a more personal note. Do yourself a favor and get the JJ os. It really is incredable, and I doubt you will ever have the chance to be a part of something like this again. There are several features in JJ that I don't use on a regular basis, but it's good to know that if I need a feature it's there. I guarantee you will find several features that once you use them will wonder how you ever did without. Hell, just try the free version. You can always go back to Akai. All I can tell you is I would not go back. Good luck in whatever you choose.

I do have the jjos, but to me it's more bloat as I only need 2 features it offers and I'm not to kien on it... Yes it has nice features, but the factory os does what I need it to, but the mentioned additions would make the process a lot easier. Grid editing would make step editing faster, autochromatic assignment would allow for more than just 16 pads, key/tempo lock would be an alternative to time stretching, and slice to midi would allow for a quicker way to create a midi sequence or qroove without having to play to a loop while recording (this also would make quick work of replacing or layering a loop... It's all good, I can accomplish all this in software, aka bpm and recycle) and I prefer hardware with a dedicated controller and an uninterupted work flow toggling between programs is a pain. Besides I stay more focused when on the mpc, and use software only when I travel due to potability and versitility of a laptop.
