If you had to trade your 4000

If you had to trade you're 4000 for another mpc what mpc would you choose and why?

Reason why I'm asking is because im moving and may need to downsize, since we all know the 4000 is a tank - and I just dont think there is going to be enough room for it..

Keep in mind that your answer dousnt have to be the smallest mpc out there to help me figure out which one to trade the 4000 for I just want to know what mpc would the 4000 be worth trading for.

so basically the 3000 is the only mpc with that kind of value and size wise it is too big. so no 60, 3000, 5000... out of the 2000/xl, 1000,500,2500 obviously the 2500 with jjos.... because it is a couple of inches smaller with a quarter of the ram and half the bitrate but still has good features.

IDK It'd be hard for me to give up the 4k's hardware features because of its size.

Plus, if you're not going back to the closet to do your recording/production, then I don't really see the 4k as something that would take up that much space.

And I thought I didn't have enough room. I've been banging out on that joint from the upper tier of my keyboard stand for a minute now, so that settled that.

Maybe I don't like making decisions like this that I think will come back to haunt me in the long run.

But if I had to do any swapping for any mpc, it would be the next "flagship" coming because I'm sure Akai will have learned from their mistakes from this current run.

yeah you might as well get a small 15" laptop with a DAW if you want more bang for your desk real estate.

i would hang on to the 4k. if that is outta the question get Live.

if I had no hardwhare or no main hardwhare seq Live would be the top choice .. but I hate the sound of live .. very flat and digital .. I like to use it as a tool and its a massive time saver .. but in no way will it replace my 4k ... nothing on the market today can justify me selling my base work station ... I´m to used to it and its so straight forward and pro that I cant find a reason to let it go ...

I am however tring to put together a portaple (almost backpack size) live rig, so I can travel, do work and gig on the road .. in that senario I was going to get a mpc1000 ... but it looks like it will just come down to a spactralis 2, two 303s + a small rack and a laptop ... the laptop only used as sample editing and online comunication (the spectralis cant sample directly (you have to load them via pc)...all music is done on a spectralis 2 ...(I currently have mk1 ... it is a killer unit with killer sound and killer live playability ... so to answear the quiestion: the only thing I could replace my 4k with is a spectralis 2 ...

trade?!!

If some one knows what to trade my 4k for please let me kno asap.any ideas much appreciated!!!

The 4000 is as good as it gets: 24/96 sampling engine of the Akai Z4/Z8 samplers, high resolution 960ppqn sequencer, legit grid/piano roll editors, pad feel of the pre-Numark MPCs, externally slaveable ADAT outs, in depth synthesis parameter tweeking through AKsys, huge screen, USB host capability, to name a few.

It's like an updated 3000.

I've just ordered a brand new 4000 from Japan. If anyone is in the market for a JJOS 2500 or 2000xl, let me know.

IMO 4K is gr8 but it's outdated. Why? because most machines now have the features of the MPC4K and does it faster. The main reason for keeping my 4K is it's sequencer and I know it already.
It's funny how ppl talk about 24/96 like it's a big deal and don't tell me you will run your multisamples through MPC 4K 'cus that would be pain in the ass. It's dope for samples thou as it has full fledged sampler inside.

It's a big deal to me. Now I can load my Goldbaby samples without converting them to 16bit.

And I'll finally be able to integrate my MPC with my 24bit digital mixing desk over ADAT.

Why would it be a pain in the ass? The 4000 is an MPC grafted to a Z series sampler.

mpc2500 jjos. if that size was still too big, the mpc1k jjos (nearly identical to 2500 feature wise in jjos)

i think for multisampling and loading sample libraries, etc. the 4k wins. but for chopping and over all workflow, mpc2500 with jjos wins. guess it depends on your priorities..............

what type of beats you making?

also keep in mind i dont think it would be a straight up trade. i dont think you could sell your 4k for as much a new 25k + jjos will cost.
