In os2 xl there is NO way to layer and at the same time mute another pad ....every other os in the history of simult has the ability to mute another pad ...we need to make this available in os2xl for a bunch of reasons ...for example I would like my kick to mute my open hi hat ...but i cant because I have already layered my kick with simult .

let me know if there is a work around ...bout i doubt it I v been trying to bring this to the attention of the boards and jj

Who is with me Lets make this happen

Yeah I'm with ya. There's been a few times where I could have used this type of functionality. The only way I've been able to do this is by using Simult 1 and assigning a blank pad that is in the same mute group as the pad I want muted. I know it's not ideal but then again no work around really is.

Yes there is.. use layers instead of simult.

That counts out the AkaiOS then.

Set your envelopes/velocity, etc on your simulted sound, then record it using MAIN OUT record, then layer it instead of using simult.

Being able to mute AND use simult would def be good though.

Akai used simult in older machiens....the mpc 2000 you could mute and simult at the same time and that was in 1998.... its 10 years later and we have to use work arounds for simple things. There has been a bunch of advancements but i think we tend to forget about the small things that would really be useful .... so people i urge you ...if you have a feature request make it simple and useful ...caz for me you can throw the in the chords track in the trashhhh if we get mute and simult back in the cut ...

the whole reason i use simult is to get away from layering meaning i have to commit to a filter or envelope then re record it .

What if the pad you wanted muted was already simulted ..there would be no mute group option for that pad ...

You would have to leave the other simult pad blank and assign it's target pads to a mute group.

i m trying to mute 2 things that are layered ...neither of them have the option to assign to a mute group ...if i simult them to blank pads and have them mute eachother out thats no help ....maybe I m not understanding what you mean

Okay I'll try to give a better example for what you're trying to do. Oh yeah and I forgot to mention you won't hear the mute results in program mode, only during play back after you've recorded it. I know that sucks but remember, a work around isn't always perfect.

So for example:
Set A01 and A02 to Simult 1 (this doesn't work in Simult 2 for some reason). Don't assign any sounds to these two pads.
Set your target pads to the Simult 1 pads.
Now set a common mute group for each of the pads you've targeted in the simult pads.
And thats it. Record then play back to hear the results.

I don't know if this is any good or would help or not, but here's an old request I posted a while back (over a year ago) for track mute group/pad mute group functionality (it's already on the MPC5000) to be added into OS2XL, complete with detailed diagrams and all:

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=111537&p=1015863&hilit=track+mute+groups#p1015863

As I said, it's been over a year ago now. Since JJ was focused on his Windows sequencer at the time, I pretty much just let is sit on the back burner and never did follow up on it. Now that he's back to updating the MPC OS2XL again, I think I need to get the ball back rolling on this again. I was also thinking of maybe adding something to it (like clearly specifying the track mute group/pad mute info should be saved WHEN SAVING THE SEQUENCE since this is sequence-related data).

To the original poster, would the implementation of quantizable track mute groups help your situation?

Thanks to all that reply.

Track Mute groups will not help ... i need to be able to mute something as well as have it simulted to another pad ...right now there is no option for that ..its either you mute or simult .......not both ....I dont understand why its such a hard process to implement both ...akai didnt seem to have a problem doing it in 1997 with the mpc 2000 .. I would love to see this change . where do i send my request to ...do i send it in like i do a bug report ?...anyone who is willing to help out let me know

I've sent feature requests using the bug report link before. Just try and explain everything as clearly as possible. I'm not sure if JJ was assisting the senior programmer for Akai back then. But he may know what you're talking about. It's worth a try.

Yeah I think it's worth doing a mass requesting.

Simple but very useful feature.
