All Zip drives are pretty fallible.
At some point they are eventualy going to stop reading the disks.
A pretty common problem is that they make a click as the reading head tries unsuccesfuly to access the disk. (click of death).
There are various theories put forward as to what causes this and some people have managed to cure the problem but, general opinion is that once this happens the drive is dead.
However these drives may work for years without breaking down.
If you are worried about losing important work, get a CF writer drive and back up to more than one device

i;ve got a problem with my usb zip drive. when i connect it to my computera via usb cable nothing happens. Yeah, I already know - this drive is **** up, but maybe somebody know how to fix it? I just bought it with my MPC today and everything works fine, excluding this drive. I tried to connect it with a different cables, but still nothing. Anybody know what's going on with it?

is it set up for mac use and plugged into a pc? or vice versa?

does it have a separate power cord? make sure fully plugged in

Mine is a see thru iomega zip 100 usb power cord can come loose kinda easy would make it not be connected

guy, who selled mi MPC with other stuff didn't give me any cord for the drive. So that's reason why zip don't want to work.

nah, this drive is for pc use. And i'm trying to plug it to pc, so it seem to be ok.

Not sure if you have a "radio shack" or similiar store near you but if you do, take the zip drive to the store and they can get you a plug that will work just need to take the drive with you because they got tons of very similiar sized adapter plugs and they try them out to see which one fits ( sizes so similiar easy to get wrong size by accident)
i had to do the same thing with mpk49 to get the plug and adapter

be like 10 US dollars or so

thanks man, I'll try to make it work :)

EDIT:
Aight, I've just bought a power supply. Drive is working :)
but i've got another problem right now: I've copied some of drum samples that I sampled on my computer some time ago and MPC don't want to read them - "not PCM .WAV file". Can sobody tell me how to transfer my sounds form computer to MPC?
btw, sounds, that I copied on a zip were .wav type, not mp3 or other shit

hi there

i'm looking for an external zip drive for my 2kxl (the scsi one) but it seems to be mad rare...!?

can anyone of you help me out on finding one in europe?

edit: oh, and there are 100mb, 250mb and even bigger zip drives.
can i connect all of them, as long as they are scsi or does it have to be the 100 series, as shown in the picture?

thanks guys!

100mb and 250mb will work just so long as they are SCSI versions.
The larger 750mb one is USB only so will not work.
I suggest you read the first post on page one of this thread carefuly before buying so you get the right type.

If you got the 2000XL, try looking for a cheap internal IDE card writer for CF cards.
It'll last you longer than a zip drive and be more convenient and reliable
