Yea but Dub J took some OK samples and did the standard boring things with them... Plus you read that last video that says:

That track was so far from underground I can't even begin to describe... The drums were so mainstream... Nothing Grimey about that track at all...

And his rhythms were wack as sh*t... I mean drum rhythms you can lay down in a matter of minutes... Him rushing through it is no excuse...

Just got a easy question for someone; On the second set of videos of Domino, I think it's the third clip (http://hieroglyphics.com/features/beats ... esson3.mov), where he gets that short piano sample and makes that melody out of it, does he change the pitch of the sample or the tone, or both? Just from listening to it, it sounds like he changed the tone without changing the pitch of the sample (creating higher and lower sounds out of the sample without altering the pitch which would make it speed up and slow down and sound off beat). I know what it's like to change the pitch of something, but I've never changed the tone of something without changing the pitch/tempo of it... You can do that one the mpc alone can't you?

Sorry for the dumbass questions, I just want to know if I've got the right idea, though.

With what I was saying before, I don't know if this is what timestretch is, but on the mpc, you can change the tone of a sound without changing the speed, right?
Say the piano sample domino was using was alot longer, like 2 or 3 times longer... Would you still just slow it down? Or cause it would be alot longer would it be too noticeable/offbeat?

Timestretching is changing the length of a sample without changing pitch or tune.

Domino's sample was very short. I wasn't really paying attention but he probably used 16 levels.

Word, 16 levels. I hear that.

It's weird to think you can change the length of a sound without chnage the pitch or tone.

mpc2000 doesn't feature timestretch so it is probably the 16 level thing he uses
