How To Make Snare's Splash?

I'm recently getting into improving drum samples, and I was curious as to the methods of improving the sound of snares. I was noticing how bassnectar is able to make his snares almost explode or splash, and I was curious if anyone knew how to do that.

At about 1:19 the drums go from a the regular snap to an exploding crack. I've been reading through pages about making snares snap harder, but Bassnectar's snares seem to be a different animal. Any insight to this?

Reverb more than likely.

i think the original snare gets layered with a snare with a prominent tail (probably due to compression)
it also sounds like hes using two samples, alternating
and i could be wrong, but i have the impression im hearing distortion (mainly on the lowest snare frequencies)..

layer a snare and a splash together?

I like using a tam or an open high hat or a crash on my snares. usually on every second or forth snare

reverb to seperate channel.
reverb small tail, or experiment different reverbs

Take a juicy, noisy type snare and hit it hard with these compression settings.
if you're not sure what all that means thats cool, however you'll need to master these techniques to fine tune your sounds

but the drums were recorded with a room reverb on it... not the snare specifically though.

I'm confused as to what exactly is so special about that snare that he is trying to get another snare to sound like it... I mean he could just go online and search for some live drum loops recorded from real drum kits and most likely he would not need to do anything to the sounds at all.

So was I. The snare sound did change on the track. But a little effort and pressing buttons will show the way.
