Hi guys, one of these days I saw an "auto-chopping" trick on the MPC2000 on a youtube clip and I though that it was pretty useful.I don't know if anyone posted it before, the vid's @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFXVl4BWp54
Basically, it consists of going to the mode-program and setting the velocity>level to 0 (default is 100), turn the velocity>start to 100 (default is 0), and when you 16 level a sample, it creates, not the same sample with diferent volume, but the same sample with diferent start points across the 16 pads. I didn't have much expectations because in the vid it was clear that the start points didn't start at each 16th of a 2 bar loop, either with 16 or 12 pads (mpc500).
Even so, I discovered that it's a good trick to be used with some types of samples, like ambient sounds, voice samples, some synths or strings. I don't use this as a replacement for the traditional chopping method, but when you need certain slices of a sample and you don't wan't to waste precious ram/disk space, it's nice to have this shortcut! In fact, it's so quick to do this, that you won't loose any time with the "programing" process, you can just hit the 16 levels button and see if anything goes well...
BTW I use this trick on the MPC500 also, works the same way, but the 500 users didn't get too excited about this, lol.
