MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

I recently moved my Akai 5k to another part of the house.. After setting it up and jamming for a little while I noticed my precious baby is humming.. If i put my hand on the vent near the rec gain and main vol, it stops.. Sounds like a ground problem. Can anyone confirm this?
Damn it ive only had the thing for a few months and already this thing has frozen up on me more than 10 times. When trying to use appreggiator ove 1/64 it freezes.. When Im uploading info to PC, the damn thing freezes.. Its always freezing..
I guess i wont be one of those people that get Akai tattood on there arm huh...

If you cant send it back you could open her up and try to remove the ram?? and re seating any cables ect.or reloading the os 2.or even backtracking to previous os!!Sometimes it could be where your plugging in your equipment (as you probably know already)other wise it a repair job. ???

Are you sure that the Rec gain is turn down when you arent sampling? as for freezing... what os are you using? 2.0? Also, did you buy used? I really think the first couple batches of MPC 5ks were bad. I bought mines new in December and never had these issues that others complain about.

try jumping and while in mid air touching the metal vent area again... if the sound does not stop until you hit the ground then you know it is a ground issue.. haha.

Since you're in California, call VST Service in Pasedena and ask for Nick. I've dealt with him for years and VST is also an authorized Akai warranty repair center. It's much smarter than having to send it to Akai, and you're still covered.

I'll bet it's your harddrive resonating on the bottom plate.

yeah could be that too... I guess it is hard to know without knowing the type of humming it is.

He just has to disconnect the drive to eliminate the possibilities.

The humming happends intermitently. When it does, even while touching the pads them selves the frequency of the hum changes its crazy.. My only concern with disecting it my self is the manufacturers warranty..
Thanks for the advice everyone..
