front usb host

I have tried to get an external usb HD to work with the front host usb connector on the mpc4000 but it isn't recognising it. Does anyone have any idea what the purpose of the front usb is other than attaching the shortcut k'bd?

Do you have a power cord for your USB drive?? If so plug that bish in!!!

I normally only use a flash drive because me and external drives don't get along well. (I throw things alot when angered)

But on the real homie... DO YOU HAVE A MANUAL???

HI, I was having problems with my front usb hub recently. If you only recently got your mpc maybe the previous owner had a pen in there and put pressure on it breaking or bending the internal pins that make the connection between the pen and the MPC 4000 hub. I took mine apart and inspected it finding a dry solder - which I fixed and whammo my front usb connection was up and running again. Hope this helps. ALso is your pen FAT32? maybe it's formatted wrong for the mpc to read?

Not sure what the problem is. I haven't tried anything but a usb HD which is around 650gb and has all kinds of stuff on it. Is there some kind of file browser supported within the mpc4000 that would allow you to navigate the external HD? At the moment nothing is showing at the disk selection in save/load.

Yeah, all plugged in on the HD side.

No I don't and it is not helping. I may have to find a good psychotherapist myself if I keep having troubles with this mpc.

A quick update: I have got a usb pen drive to work in the front usb host so its seems that the mpc 4000 is a little fickle about what it will accept through the front usb host.

Yes, the 4000 is picky about drives, especially 2,5" ones.

I have made good experiences with Western Digital 2,5" drives. They work via front USB as well as via the internal HD port.

From a technical point of view, I think grassroots hit it on the head here.

front host acts weird on mine too, but i found a way to make it work properly :

it is unplugged when i work. when i am done and want to save, i open the save page
then i plug the usb drive. it takes something like 20 seconds to show up. then i save - and it's loooooooong with 96k samples. then i unplug the drive. and then i open a beer

I don't have anything like this with the usb pen drive i use. Even if I unplug it the mpc recognises it pretty much instantly when it is plugged back in. Load and save is also pretty quick. The drive I am using is a kingston 4gb white body with yellow trim and centre logo.

yep, same here
it is just long with the drive (250g)

The 4k won't recognise NTFS harddrives.
You need to format the drive tof FAT32 and put your files on the drive again, then you can use any size harddrive
