Logic Pro 9 versus Cubase 5.

I know, I know ... before anyone starts jumping on me over the comparison, I am not really looking for a 'Mine is better than yours' conclusion, but more of a ' how well this software covers all that you need'.

I used Logic up until version 5 on the PC, then Apple got all snotty over PC's and withdrew support, sadly. However, I have always used Cubase from the days of the Atari and I still love this software.

However, I have messed with Logic pro recently and I must say that it is very tasty indeed ... not quite enough on it's own to make me move over to a Mac, though.

Just wondered who uses which of the above two ? What are your favourites with the software of choice ??

My engineer uses logic in the studio. Hes real fast with it.


I personally like cubase because of its intergration with the motif. You can modify and save presets. Even add VST effects in real time.

If I were you, I would read the reviews Tweak did on tweakheadz.com for both softwares..

well people who write in magazines usually do product testing and they own a lot of gear they write about.not only that youtube has a slew of videos on both these in operation. plus my experience maybe limited,plus you can get demo versions of either.plus you can call product support for detailed information,plus you really gave him all the information he needed to get started. oh man I forgot to call you a little name or something, oh well maybe next time

Yes, Rookie ... I know all that you said... However, most of those general reviews aren't really done by people that are often heavily into, Soul/RnB/ Hip Hop ,etc ... This was really the angle I was coming in from. I have used both and still use Cubase as my sequencer of choice, along with Reason and Nuendo ( depending on which studio I mess about in ). I used Logic up to version 5 on the Pc ... and have also been tinkling with it at Pro 9 ( wonderful stuff ! ). I just wanted individual takes on how these programs are used within your own setups and how well you integrate your MPCs , etc. Thanks anyway.

The major DAWs do pretty much the same thing, so just choose a DAW you're comfortable with. And that's Cubase for me (since '95).

Yes, I have used Cubase since it's inception, literally. Still, I would love to see Apple swallow their pride and again release a PC version of Logic Pro.

yep i owen every cubase since sx but 8/10 times i end up using reaper...

Stick to what you know... that would be my advice. For some reason I find sequencing and arranging really fiddly in anything but Cubase. Try as I might, I just can't seem to be able to arrange full tracks in Reason, FL or Live, whereas getting loops rolling in those is great.

If you can use a DAW without having to think about what you're doing, then that's probably the one for you.

It's worth mentioning that Logic has notoriously better plugins out of the box, but I'm afraid you're gonna need a shiny new Mac to go with it!

i´ve been working with Cubase for like 8 years now, a good friend of mine is using Logic ever since. He´s very very fast with it and everytime we make some music together and I watch him doing his thing I feel like I need a Logic aswell haha. I think version 9 has some DOPE plugins. speaking of plugins, the ones in Logice all sound pretty dope imo, lot´s of useful tools. Sometimes I feel like Logic´s sound engine is a bit better than the one in Cubase, just a feeling tho.

... Often seems that way ... but those plug ins that come with Logic are seriously good gear ( Cubase has got some serious catching up to do still ).

I'm another Steinberg user too and have been since ver. 3.7 VST24 back in the mid/late 90's. Ain't had no reason to switch even though I was coming from Cakewalk Pro 6.0 and was sold on Cubase's performance and features back then. And like someone else said, it's all in the preferences.

Pretty much like getting a car, but you can choose what level of features & performance you want amongst a variety of 'em.

he explained it perfectly. just add the vst's you need(or probably have) and you straight.
