3000 CF Reader Feedback

couldn't pass up a great deal, picked up a 3000 recently.

curious how well these internal cf reader installs go. be great to get some insight from people using them on a regular basis. any known issues i should be aware of before making the purchase/install?

I have one installed in my 3000. It beats the hell out of using the floppy disks. The flash card loads and saves super fast. If you do decide to get one, I'd reccomend scsiforsamplers.com. I've been getting drives, and cables for him since 03 and I've never had a problem. If you plan on installing it yourself take a look on youtube for the video that shows you how to open the 3000 up. It's very helpful especially if you came to the 3000 from the 1000 or 2500. Also JD from scsi for samplers will walk you through it.

Some things to keep in mind:
1. The flash cards are not hot swappable...in other words you have to cut the machine off to remove the card.
2. The 3000 will only format a drive up to 700 or so mb so if you can get your hands on 1 gb or 512 mb cards you're in luck.
3. The 3000 formats the card with 32mb partitions so you will have several partitions when you're done.
4. I've read about ways of putting the 3000 formatted card on the computer, but I am not certain of how to do it. I know there's the valixi os that will make hybrid partitions.

The CF Card is just dope on it. Quick, easy, and reliable. So...Just do it

i've had problems with the CF reader. i bought two for two mpc 3000 LEs i own and i have the same problem with both. i can save sequence data but no sample data on the CFs.

damn... sounds like a nightmare. jd from scsiforsamplers able to help you out at all?

That non-hot swappable 'feature' is currently the only thing that's stopping me getting one of those card scsi readers. I'm using jaz 2gb discs since a couple of months back and even though I've only heard bad things about them they work beautifully for me. I use them both for transfering drum samples from the computer and to compile sample discs and saving beats.

Is there any way of accomplishing a hot-swappable card reader solution? I'd sure like to do away with the jaz discs since it's not a great choice for the future, even if I have several spare drives, including two brand new ones & a lot of new discs..

just an update: returned the cf drives to scsiforsamplers and hoping they can be replaced with a drive that has a different, more compatible SCSI adapter board. before returning i tried several different brands of cf cards but the result was the same - sequence data could be saved but no samples. i have Vailixi on one of the mpcs but that didn't seem to make a difference.

i'll update again once i get the new drives.

to me sounds like a fuse problem....
did u find any prob with the zip scsi?

I had the exactly same problem with a card drive from Scsiforsampler.

He did tell me that the firmware of the Scsi => IDE adapter board was bad.

We made some test on phone with changing the jumper settings, and it finally works for my MPC 60 MKI.

So if someone have the problem, i can send pictures of the jumpers.

That non-hot swappable 'feature' is currently the only thing that's stopping me getting one of those card scsi readers.

I upgraded my MPC3000 yesterday with a vailixi 3.50 and connected my Spyrus MC disk RD300 to it, loaded with pcmcia adapter+ CF cards and...cards are hot swappable!

The flash card loads and saves super fast.

I have an internal zip disk and the external RD300 connected. I find it is slow to load or save. It took 6 minutes to save 15mb of samples the first time...
Of course i don't overwrite existing samples after so it is fast but overall, not that fast at all.

How long does it took to you MPCists ?

We have mostly resolved the issue that some of you are having with the CF-CARD drive and your MPC3000. Basically you need to change an internal jumper setting and use Sandisk 2GB Ultra II CF cards only. But I thought we had talked to everyone who had an issue and gotten them resolved. If you are still having a problem, by all means, contact me. We will either get the drive working or, if we cannot fix the problem, have you return it for a refund.

atomikdawg, I'm still waiting for your drive to get back to me. Contact me if you have any news about it. I haven't heard from you in a week or two.

We also have the Spyrus RD300 MCDISK-2 drives in stock and those are hot-swappable with the MPC3000 (as nuts just pointed out) but you have to have the Vailix 3.5 os installed. If you do (or are planning to get it soon) hit us up - we have reasonable MCDISK-2 prices, not those ridiculous high ones you see on ebay - $250 last time I looked! . We have both internal and external drives available.
