Using MPC 1000 for DJing... Is it do-able?

Hi,
I've gotten into the idea of DJing a bit recently. Nothing fancy, just for a small indie disco near me that'd probably let me play a warm up set if I asked them. I thought I would want to get a nice new laptop for it....with a touchscreen for mixing between songs,

But then I realised this touchscreen malarky is still way too expensive and unreliable at present, so I should proabaly hold on until after xmas at least.

Until then, I've thought that maybe I could use the MPC1000 for rudimentary DJing.... It already has multiple outs for monitoring, and pitch adjusts. But maybe the interface ( JJOS2 ) insn't ideal.

There would be the issue of gaps between loading songs for instance, but could I get around that by installing a harddrive?

Has anyone tried using the MPC1000 for anything similar?

er? what would be the point? if you're already running CDJ's or serato, an MPC is just going to complicate things.. unless you're actually going to make beats live.. the finest example i've seen (excluding shadow/chemist/numark etc), in a club setting is this (skip to 6:48):

of course you can still hook it up for drops or running some loops, but it's not a CD player.

I don't have CD decks, hence wondering whether the MPC-1000 can do a similar function with ripped WAVs from CDs.

Short answer - no - don't use the MPC to dj.

You can use the mpc to build a set out of samples.. then play back that set.. but it will drive you mad trying to make a dj set on an mpc. And your Ram capacity won't be able to handle more than a song at a time.

do you have (any) computer? that would be your fastest/cheapest route for djing.

I use a Numark Omni Control (approx $300 bucks) with an Asus EEE Pc Netbook to do gigs - works brilliantly for a cheap setup.

Anybody worth their salt cuts their teeth DJ'ing at home for quite a while. It took a year before I started to do parties and after doing clubs for a short while I got kind of tired lugging all the gear around. Sure good money, but I already have a day job and it just wasn't worth the hassle. I'd rather go to a club to have fun and not be the robotron discomatic 5000... "Dude... can you like, play some metallica or guns n' roses next?" Yeah... great bands, but not going to mix too well for my next set.

keep it on topic, the man wants to dj with his MPC. Youre just not being helpful, Im pretty sure he doesnt want to learn how to make beats AND dj.

Honestly, if it isn't round a real DJ doesn't want anything to do with it.

This also goes for their interests in sports, food and women.

actually you could sort of do it... you run midi out into your computer and use the pads to trigger stop and start etc...
but that would be pretty shit...

you could be on to something there... if the Q-link sliders are assigned to control pitch, and you were able to control both 'decks' by assigning 2 different tracks to seperate outs.. it might be workable. It'd only be as awkward as early cdj boxes
