mpc 60 v3.10 OS

I just recently bought an mpc 60 and it's got the memory upgrade (thank god) but I am trying to get the 3.1 OS installed on it also. I've seen it on the Roger Linn Design website for like $200 is that the only place to get it? Is there anywhere else that its cheaper? That's hella expensive!

maybe find another 60 with it and buy that... and sell your current one.

There's no way I'm selling my current one. I got it at an unbelievable price of $300 on ebay in amazing condition. I've been looking for a 60 for a long time now waiting for the best deal and I've never seen one sell for that. Even if I purchase the OS from the Roger Linn site I'm still gonna come out ahead in the long run. Most sell for around $600- $1000.

I couldn't be wrong but . If you find the right eprom chip for it and get your hands on another eprom chip loaded with the right software you could clone it using a reader and write it to the new eprom chip ( or possibly right over your old one)! just a thoery? anyone think this will work?

if you have the hardware to flash eproms and you have the software to flash eproms, and you have the OS to flash onto the eproms... yes it is possible. But good luck buying that dev tool... if you do find it, it will be expensive.



As for not selling your mpc, what I meant was get another machine with the part you need (in this case the new OS chip) and swap out the parts.... obviously you keep the best condition one and sell the other one. The suggestion was made because if you catch another deal you might be able to get the OS for free if you can make the sale at a high enough price...

otherwise where you gonna get the new OS? roger made it and he is the one who sells it.

It's not worth going through that hassle. "Burning eproms".. wtf? I mean, come on. You've already invested in a beautiful piece of hardware, if you really feel like doing ghetto mods on it sure then go ahead. But that machine deserves better IMHO.

It's not expensive in comparsion to what you've already paid, get the official upgrade! It's worth the money and will serve you well for many years to come.

ghetto mods? burning your own ep rom chip is the same exact thing roger linn is doing... same exact process with the same exact hardware.

But yeah, to burn one single chip it isn't worth it and I dont think it would be cool to pirate roger linn's 3.10

I would be very skeptical of buying a set of pirated EPROMS.

There is more to it than just copying the contents from one chip to another. For instance, if there is corruption or bad bits on the source ROMs -- they will end up on the pirated one.

Some of the advanced techs on the board will attribute many of the issues that users have such as random crashing and errors to a corrupted OS.

In essence, you get what you pay for. Pirated OS = No support.

Do yourself a favor and purchase the OS upgrade and the SCSI upgrade directly from Roger Linn. It's well worth the investment. At some point Roger Linn will permanently discontinue the SCSI upgrade -- if this is an upgrade you feel you may use, I would not wait too long to purchase it.

I see a MPC3000 on Ebay that has OS 3.10 on the floppy disk... so its not installed
but works fine off the discette according to the seller.
Is it possible to boot each time off a floppy disk and is it a reliable solution ...
or shout that MPC3000 go for a lower price...since there is no OS 3.10 installed?

Yes, you will lose a little bit of memory as the OS needs to be loaded there, but it will work the same as one on an internal ROM.

does Valixi OS offers new important functions to MPC300?
like track mute or something or does 3.11 OS is sufficient...?
Also lots of them come with loose Data Wheel --- how hard is it to "tighten" it up or replace or fix?
