Sample, Sampler!

Im looking for something so when I go to a record store I can peep what is on the records and see if something catches my ear. I know I seen something around here about it, but I haven't been able to find it or even know what it is called!

A lot of record shops will have a small listening station where you can try out a record if you want, but I've never done that myself. That's one of the great things about records. That you can buy a pretty nice stack for twenty bucks. It's always a gamble, but it also forces you to really listen and try to squeeze a diamond out of a lump of coal...

I always thought it would be strange to play a record on a portable player you brought in yourself. Hypothetically, if I owned a record store I wouldn't want anyone to use their tables and needles on my product prior to their purchase of it. I wouldn't mind them looking at the vinyl, but I don't know where that slipmat or needle has been!

You don't know where any of these records have been! The shop I go to is run by this young dude who is always looking in basements and sheds, grabbing records where the sleeves just desolve in his hands. I made a comment one time about it being amazing how well records have held up over the years, and he "corrected" me. I don't think they would worry about you damaging their records, I just think it's rude.

Yeah, I always read about people using portable players, but to me it seems awkward for some reason.

word i just got a lot of about 200 7" norhtern soul records BIG money records,but some of them are so old and not taken care of, its a shame people didnt take care of them.i see this alot. i was cleaning one by hand the other day and it cracked, they just feel brittle to the touch.

ive been diggin for over 30 yrs and i have only used a turn table to listen to what i'm buying when i buy house or techno at those shops. never had to listen to a record before i bought it, i have gotten some crappy records before, but it's knowing what your buying and the artist ,producer,musicians....

illiterati i personally wouldnt use one, but theres stores that sell them.might ask them if they let someone use one of those vans on there records
