Talk about the music biz - marketing, promotions, contract law, copyright etc...

Do you post all your beats on every music profile you have or do you post certain beats on profiles? Post certain beats on certain profiles so people who feel them click on your other profiles to hear more, different beats?

Network with people locally and online. Mind you I said network, not spam. You spam and you kill damn near any chance you had of working with somebody. Yeah spamming get's plays, but also irritates the hell out of people. Anyways, yeah networking is really the best way.

Don't worry about inintial "hits" on the profiles, instead collect opt in e-mail contacts and build a list to send promo music to

here is how

Go to a site like vistaprint.com and get you like 10,000 business cards/post cards or flyers with eye catching graphics, that you believe would appeal to your target audience or potential clients.

distribute the cards anywhere that potential clients hang out or may be concentrated at.

then simply put " send an e-mail to ( insert your permanent e-mail address) join the e list and to recieve a free beat ( if that's what your biz is ( you can set up an e-mail auto responder that will automatically send a new contact a message and the free "promo" beat snipett samples of what you do.

To make the cards worthwhile only include the e-mail adress on em not a phone # so that your new contacts will have to e-mail you with a valid e-mail adress as they will want that free track sent.

these cards azre not your normal business cards as they serve the sole purpose of building your e contacts in your own area.

Each contact will be added to to your opt in e-mail contact database

Great advice I use to do that at Barnes and Noble I would put my cards in the how to be a artist book section. It worked out pretty well.

BG, my parents have owned and run several successful businesses over 30+ years and all I can say is you'd put a big @** smile on my dad's face if he were to see the knowledge you drop in here regularly. With posts like that I'll have to check out your site one of these days just to see what's doin'.

your dad got anything he'd like to share with us? if he's made any sick beats or dropped some sick rhymes recently it'd be lovely to hear them, too.

Seriously, I see too many of the younger kats doing too much on the Net. The internet is a valuable tool, but you have got to "pound the pavement" also. Get out and network, like someone stated earlier. You have got to go to shows, functions, festivals and anywhere else the people you are trying to reach may be found!

+1

Great advice. Get away from the computer and go out and meet people.
