HI Everyone. I am brand new to the board, and i bought an mpc500 about a month ago. I was wondering if anyone of you experienced producers can help me out? I read the mpc500 tutorial, but i still dont understand some of the basic definitions. If anyone can give me a simple defintions for sequence, program, track, param, project, folder, and banks, it would be a life saver. I have been using fl studio for the past 3 years and its broken down so basically, that I have never even had to understand what any of these meant to make a beat. So i cant even make a beat unless i understand the functions of these files. I know this is basic stuff, but the definitions in the book were for the experienced producer.

before the tutorial you should read the manual http://www.mpcsounds.com/download_akai_mpc_manual.php

or just start following the tutorials and you'll get it, if the 2000xl tutorial is anything to go by it's all pretty simple, if you follow every step you'll get an understanding that a sequence is the timing and placement of notes (pad hits), a program is a file like a drum kit, param is the properties of each note/pad etc. go through everything in the book while with the machine.

Thanks! It's just really hard, coming from using fl studio, where you dont neccesarily need to know what anything means, and u just go for it. I know it sounds dumb to most of you guys, but it really helps, to have some experienced producers help me out.

I'll be back.

MPC definitions would have been a more accurate thread title.

See what I can do if no-one else beats me to it.

There must be a thread on these things somewhere....

Sure... I'll give it a try... might have more luck moving to the MPC 500 forums though for more specific questions.

Program -> Specifies the usage of the 12 pads, acrossed the 4 banks. This is where you specify the samples that are played when you hit a given pad.
Banks -> A-D allow you to address up to 48 'pads' by changing the bank. This allows Pad 1 to generate a different sound for bank A than it does for bank B.
Track -> Where you specify a program to use (for pads) and the notes played to trigger the samples.
Sequence -> Contains one or more tracks, to create a composition
Project -> Contains one or more sequences that are used to createa song or set of songs.
Param -> no idea what the context is
Folder -> A directory in computer terms.

Hope that helps somewhat for you.

No problem... we all feel like typing this stuff out so many times some days :P

Actually haven't seen too many definition posts like this... mostly other questions.

Just glad I could help
