Mac and Zip problem...

i had no problem when i had a Windows pc...

so as if i am a complete idiot... can mac users please explain to me how to SAFELY load sounds on a zip so that my Xl can read it???

i fuked up 3 zips already... im obviously doing something wrong... someone please explain... this sh!t is pissing me off.

From my personal experience, my MPC 2000 or XL doesn't like swapping files with my Mac.

I do not use Zip disks, but I think you have to format them on the MPC first.

I am using a CF reader and no problems at all moving between the Mac and my 2kxl.

Comrade, which Mac model do you own, which OS version is it running? MPC 2000 classic or XL?

For my 2KXL disks I'm using a MBP 13" mid/late 09 with OSX 10.6.3/4 and a USB powered Zip 250 drive, having no problems.
As well as with my PowerMac G4 Quicksilver with 10.4.11 / 10.5.8

Zips need to be formatted in the MPC. And Sounds need to be saved as 16bit WAV files.

Try Audacity (free wav editor) for sample manipulation/conversion...

i have a Intel 10.5.8 OS macbook and a MPC 2000XL.

Ok... try this:

Take a Zip disk and format it in your MPC; sample any sound with your MPC and save it as a .wav file on your Zip disk. When ready eject Zip.

Go on with the mac, connect your USB Zip drive, wait a few seconds, insert Zip disk with saved MPC .wav.
If your Zip drive and disk are ok the Mac OS Finder should auto-mount a disk image. Open this and you will find
the sampled .wav file. Copy this one to your hard drive, do not open the file with any app. when ready eject the disk image, the Zip drive should auto-eject the disk after a few seconds. Take another MPC formatted Zip disk, copy the .wav back from HD to the Zip disk, eject, insert it in the MPC drive and try to load the copied file.

Then give a reply where in this sequence you had any problems with it.

.im going to say it too format your zips in the xl first, ive tried formatting them through the disk utility app but never have much luck.
sometimes xl formatted disks take a while to pop up in the os x finder so dont give up right away.

k seems like that was the problem... i formatted in the XL 1st and then loaded sounds, works good.

i just remember on PC you had to format in Fat32 Format or something like that... so i formatted with mac 1st as well...

i just got MPC3000LE that has a dead floppy drive ,
so i went the Zip route and bought external SCSI Zip drive
and a USB Zip drive off Ebay ( still waiting for arrival)...

I wonder howto properly to use MPC3000 AKAI formated disks with
MacBook Pro OSX 10.6.3
would i be able to mount the Zip on the Mac and copy files
cause i am aware that OSX cxannot mount or write to AKAI formatted disks
without some utilities like Disk Xtract , etc ...

any tutorials , tips on howto do it properly?

AFAIK the "AKAI - Format" is a filesystem for HDDs & CDs only and the 3000 uses a FAT16 like filesystem for ZIPs,
just like the 2000XL does.
So I think it it should work with your setup the same way as described above. Format with MPC, then mount on Mac..
But actually I don't really know it (don't have a 3000), so please report if it does/not work! pz

format in mpc, upgrade to 10.6, easy as cake. Zip actuall works really well on snow leopard, but not so well on leopard......but you need to format from the MPC first. It is true that FAT32 works glitchy on leopard, so a OS upgrade would be greatly beneficial.

Today i finally got two Zip Drive Disks of Ebay

SCSI 250MB external and USB250 Zip drive -

i could easily connect them to MPC3000LE , format 250 Zip disk
on 9 partitions and mount the disk on Snow Leopard 10.6.3 flowessly!

Now i can save and load samples to/off my MPC3000LE ( kept it turned on for 4 days!)

Question:

on the MAC:
When i mount a MPC3000 partitioned Zip disk on my MAC ( 10.6.3) it only mounts A partition where i saved the samples from MPC... but not the rest of partitions..
how do i see the rest of partitions?

On the MPC: When i try to save sample, program or sequence to a Zip drive from the MPC3000
it gives an option of selecting a partition A .... but i cannot see or select any other partitions...
that i supposed to made when i partitioned the 250MB Zip
how do i select partition B, C, D, etc... if the cursor doesn't move to that part of the MPC screen ( partition :A) ...
is this normal?

You can only access the first partition on any removable media from a Mac or PC. This is a "feature" of the operating system.

Are you sure that there are actually more than one partition on your Zip disks? You should be able to put all 250MB under one partition, unless you specifically asked the MPC to create more than one. Double-check that when you format a zip disk.

if its an MAC/PC feature to access only one partition than
it's a strange one

Mpc3000 asked me to patition disk on chanks of max 30MB
each giving an option of 9 partitions
so I guess that's what I did...
but for some reason the same MPC3000
will not access any other partitions other than A ??
maybe there is only One A partition?
how do I check that?
I got CDXtract utility on Mac that can access AKAI CDroms
and can see all partitions - can it maybe read Zip disks too?
