[b]External CD & SCSI Question[/b]

I'm new to the MPC. 1) Will an external CD Burner/player from my computer work to hook up to my MPC to load samples from CD Roms? (My external burner/player has USB & Stereo (rca cable) outputs). I wanna buy CD's with samples but not sure if I need a certain cable or Zip drive to load them?

You can always use an external cd player.The mpc won't burn to an external burner.So,you'll need some software to record and mix.You can always do all of that on the mpc and save to zip as well.Another route is to just use your media player or winnamp or whatever player on your computer and record straight to the mpc.Hope this helps some.If not post back and we can go more into detail.....

I appreciate that man. But what I meant was....How can/do I load samples from CD's to the Mpc so I can play the samples on the pads?

No you can't load samples directly from a CD by an ext. CD-Rom. You need a SCSI CD ROM, you can find them from different computer stores, but I got mine from www.scsiforsamplers.com

You gotta have a sample source first.ie your external cd/media player.Once you have your sample when it goes to assign move down and hit the pad you want to send it to.You should see the pad and note appear.Once you hit keep,return to main menu and your sample should play 1nce you hit the pad.(Is that what you needed?)

Hi all, I've got a similar question to this guy, I'm new here so please forgive me if this has been posted elsewhere.

Basically my zip disc is stuffing up on me every now and then - about every couple of months it will just kind of ruin the disc when I'm saving or loading - it will just keep rotating around and make this nasty clcking sound like it's chewing it up. Then I loose everything on it - it really sucks !!

I've tried loading up the latest OS. Didn't help.

Someone told me that I need a new zip drive so I'm tring to source one.

I was told I need to get a 50 pin scussi drive - is this true? This might be part of the problem - you see currently the zip I'm saving to doesn't have the 50 pin connection into the back like in the back of the mpc- it has a 25 hole printer connection type input into it. (female connection) So I have a moulded type cable with a 50 pin connection at one end (mpc end) and a 25 pin connection at the other end (into the zip drive). Could this be the problem ? I also read somewhere not to use moulded cables - is this true ?

Should I be looking for a scussi zip drive with a 50 pin connection into it ? Do they exist ?

My zip drive has switches at the back where you can choose Termination on and off or SCSI ID 5 or 6 - the one I borrowed doesn't have this so I don't know if it will work ?

25 pin male into the mpc and a 25 male into your zip.Just make sure it's a scsi and not parallel.Also make sure it has a terminal id swirch.You can find them on the bay pretty cheap and by the tons.That should fix it.Also get some new zips.

The first one you spoke of sounds like its time for the scsi zip graveyard. Just find the right type of cable and you should be cool.

I have one for sale. Its in used condition and has never failed me. External scsi readed / writer. I used this in conection with my pc and mpc I would load samples to the mpc and after I made my tracks I would record it in the pc and them burn it on this drive. $50.00 and I will include the cable you need (which is like $40.00 bucks from comp usa)

Just one more stupid question - Stryke you said 25 pin into the MPC - which makes sense as it would be the same as into my zip. Only problem is the back of my MPC has a 50 pin female connection - do I open it up and change the connection or do I buy a little adapter that goes in between to make it a 25 pin or something ? - I'm pretty ignorant about this stuff.

Phatz I guess you're offering that external scussi to the other guy asking questions because I think it would cost heaps to ship it from Philly to Australia - think I'm better off trying to source one locally. Say peace to Schooly D for me though!!

I don't know who you been talkin' to hanz but i do it all the time.It's just like usin a cd player.Or in fact let's say a cd player on your radio.If you use a 1/4 plug into your phones you can go into either the 1/8 in mono left or right on your mp.If you don't believe me try it.Or sit back and think about it for a sec.(not bein' rude or funny)

From the original post, I believe he was talking about loading SAMPLE data (sounds) from a CD-ROM, not SAMPLING audio from a CD. I could've read it wrong, but that's what I thought he was talking about. I didn't think he was asking how to sample, but how to use a sample disc with a CD ROM.

any cheap joint rockin external scsi;s cd's. i dont know if wanna fork out for one after i just brought my 2 zip250's.....
