Rode nt1a any experience on this ?

Been looking for a new condencer mic.
Read a lot of reviews, and looked around the internet shops for a mic in a good price range.

Willing to spend 100-300 $ since I mainly want to use it for liveinstrument sampling
Lot of my fellow musicfriends uses chinese produced OEM-mics ( ADK, Golden age project, TSM, MXL)
And some of them actually has a nice sound to it according to my friends.

But I'm strangly attracted to the Rode nt1a.
Mostly since I found out that its possible to mod it so it emulates the sound of the neumann u47

So should I go for the Rode nt1a or should I hold on to my pennies until I can afford a neumann?

I have recorded rap vocals with a neumann U87 going into an Avalon 737 then into pro tools.


which is a $5,000 vocal chain. the vocals end up not really needing any additional processing.



Then I read an interview with the producer marco polo where he talked of a rode nt 1 as being able to emulate a u87 for much less $$$

so I picked up a rode nt1a and a presonus tube pre and an se reflexion filter, and man it's close enough and 10x less $$

yeah, the nt1a + the modd has a better pricetag to get that u47 sound
Have you used it for recording instruments or mainly vocals?

I use the classic NT1 and it is a very solid, nice mic. You won't be disappointed.

Super pleased with my NT1A running into presonus firepod. Really really clean even tone for the price.

I got the NT2-A which is basically the same thing, very nice clean mic... I'm not a big recording head, I just have it for demo purposes or recording percussions etc, may sound like overkill but I got it for a sick price!

It sounds clear and well balanced! (as soon a High pass is put on). I don't regret that it lacks a HP-switch, I just apply a 75Hz HP from my vtb-1 preamp.

+ the price where allmost to good to be true! paid 199$ and got it in a pack with shockmount, windscreen, cable and dvd.

Anyone here made the oktavamodding at the oktava shop?
Do I send the mic to them so they replace the original membrane with the modded one? Or do I just get the parts and mount them myself?
