mpc 2000xl to mpc 2500 - zip problems

Hey checked most popular questions .. no luck so thought i'd ask here.. having just sold my xl I have 10 years worth of zip disks 100 disks.. bought a usb zip drive so that I could still access via my computer and use on the new machine.. (pc with vista) and still access my old tunage.. no luck though ... Zip Drive shows up on my computer but every time I insert a disk it says - please insert a disk ..so basicaly it doesnt recognise any data. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I think you need a program such as Chicken Systems Translator for the files to show up.

Anyway... 100 discs??!

Thanks man ... i'll hunt that down .. yeah need to transfer all these old 100 discs to hard drive and be done with zip... its been a long relationship.

Get MPC Editor. Go to "Disk", then to Backup/Restore. Select Backup and navigate to your zip drive as the source and back it up to somewhere on your c drive. Once it's done, put a blank CF card in your computer. Go back to Disk, then go to Backup/Restore and navigate to your back up file. Select it and press OK. Once it's done, insert the card into your 2500 and load away!

Two warnings though: 1. The 2500 doesn't read partitions. So if your zips are partitioned, the 2500 will only read partition A. So for partions B and up, I don't know how to retrieve them other than findin another XL.

2. The 2500's tuning and volume system is different than the XL's. So any sounds you tuned or changed the level of in the trim screen of the XL will reflect **** up in the 2500. So you will have to fix almost all of your beats to sound how they sounded in the XL.


So in short, you should have kept your XL. I'd advise you to find another one cheap, get a CF reader for it and transfer all your zips to CF before they die!

Man thanks a lot.. I have a friend with an mpc 2000xl with card reader & I have a spare zip scsi in the loft .. will see if I can borrow his machine and sort this one out .. already missing my xl .. but looking foward to the new partner (once I figure it all out)
